25th April 1848 HMShips Terror and Erebus were deserted on the 22nd April 5 leagues NNW of this having been beset since 12th Sept 1846. The officers and crews consisting of 105 souls under the command of Captain F. R. M. Crozier landed here—in Lat. 69°37'42" Long. 98°41' This paper was found by Lt. Irving under the cairn supposed to have been built by Sir James Ross in 1831—4 miles to the Northward—where it had been deposited by the late Commander Gore in May 1847. Sir James Ross' pillar has not however been found and the paper has been transferred to this position which is that in which Sir J. Ross' pillar was erected—Sir John Franklin died on the 11th of June 1847 and the total loss by deaths in the Expedition has been to this date 9 officers and 15 men.—James Fitzjames Captain HMS Erebus F. •John Torrington may have been the first to die. January 18, 1846. Because of the extreme cold in the Canadian arctic, his body was incredibly well preserved.

•William Braine, whose mummified remains were nearby Torrington's, died on April 3, 1846. He had served aboard HMS Erebus.
Wonder what happened the to rest in the extreme cold. I guess bit of eaten by polar bears, cannibalism, and sank with the ship to be eaten by sea life. Franklin was likely burred in the ice but not found as of yet but it's just speculation.

Russia is by no means a Western - style liberal democracy. There is rampant corruption and opposition is harassed and discredited. However, calling it a “dictatorship” would be a bit of a stretch as it lacks most featured of a dictatorship:
•a leader who holds and/or abuses an extraordinary amount of personal power, especially the power to make laws without effective restraint by a legislative assembly.
•suspension of elections and civil liberties.
•rule by decree
•repression of political opponents without abiding by the rule of law
•one party state
•cult of personality
Putin only fits two of these criteria. The Western media demonises him to turn public opinion against him and increase support for a potential confrontation with Russia.

They weren't deserted. They got a cool parting gift reward for keeping their mouths shut in the sign of the Rebel Resistance insignia. That way, they can point it to the stars/moon and think one day they'll get rescued (they'll get massacred or sold off) or maybe star a rebellion of their own. Animals don't have much of a brain as humans do so they wanted to help the animals get free first (they all got rounded up and some got slaughtered for the meat) while feeling good about themselves doing some rebellous action.

It was either the tinned food cans or the water distillery in the ships. Pretty cool how there was such a high reward for it and people were searching for these ships for about 50 years when they finally found Erebus in 2014 and Terror in 2016 at Terror Bay. Much of the bodies and the ship themselves were well preserved.
Ships were also pretty advanced in their time with steam engine and one being a bomb vessel.

Saw that show as kid, well, random episodes anyway. Never knew she had that many partners but it is a teen show after all. I was just poking fun at how many partners Carrie has was all, especially with her being bi-polar and all that.
