I liked her in Poor Things and The Nice Guys as well. She’s really going places and on her own. I like her sister as well.
The French one with Depardieu is better because there’s more to it. There’s a lot missing in Caviezel version but first half is outstanding. For one, Edmond did not have a son with Mercedes. Also, Edmond ends up with Haydee.
I loved the acting, choice of actors (especially Pierre Niney), the look of the film - but I didn’t like this movie as much as I had hoped and I didn’t like the Milady version. I have seen all movies and TV series and I have read the books - I have even been by d’Artagnan’s residence in Paris. What I didn’t like was that there wasn’t enough story between Athos and Milady in the Musketeer one. Plus, Milady is beheaded. But it looks like they want to continue her story which is fine with me.
In the Count one - Gerard Depardieu’s version (1998) is my favorite - although the Caviezel one was very good up to a point. In reality, Dantes does not end up with Mercedes - that was a done deal. He ends up with Haydee. There were four people who did him in and this movie didn’t go into enough about how he gets back at each one. They didn’t even show how he joined a pirate ship to get his gold. So much was omitted and so much was added that was made up. It’s unfortunate for those who know the story. To do The Count - you really need a long time to tell the story and that’s why the Caviezel one doesn’t work - too much was omitted in second half. This novel is the best revenge story ever written.
I love the French one with Gerard Depardieu so far. They can never make enough of these - I will watch every Dumas pere story that comes along.
He’s excellent. Extremely sharp. Well versed. And a genuinely friendly demeanor.
She failed because she’s female.
I don’t think it was that good. Very mediocre when compared to other films on BFI’s Sight and Sound (2022) GREATEST movies of ALL TIME and in which Get Out is no. 95 out of 250. Beating out Heat which is no. 169. And then to find out the director had a completely different original ending which was more like annihilation which he changed due to - he thought the shifting of social injustice - probably should go back to the concept of his original ending.
Point Blank is superior.
There was nothing like Point Blank.
Start with Pinocchio.
BTW MoFo is a great law firm.
This is interesting and news to me. I loved the movie Payback. I also loved Point Blank - the first adaptation. But I had no idea there were essentially two versions of Payback. Where have I been. So, I am going to have to see the original cut. I like that they say it is “too dark.” 15 minutes added. I am a great admirer of both Helgeland and Gibson. I am also critical - so I can’t wait.
Margaret also has a sister Rainey btw. Already knew way back her daughters were actresses.
How long (months, years) do you think you will have to stay in?
Crying never helps. And He wouldn’t like it either. I am only saying that nothing ever happens the way you think it will.
Good luck with becoming great. In the meantime, watch a movie.
Dream on. Full forensic audits have already been done upon Trump’s requests.
“Because the 2020 presidential election results in several states were quite close, stakeholders took advantage of various state laws and procedures to allege incorrect vote counts and request recounts…The Trump campaign challenged the vote counts in some states and sought recounts in others. Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania all faced lawsuits that alleged vote-count fraud and sought recounts…None of these lawsuits or contests succeeded, and none of the recounts or audits changed the results of the election.” (Stanford University MIT Election Data + Science Lab.)
Because those who voted for Biden didn’t necessarily want to vote for Harris or Hillary or Obama. They probably didn’t vote at all. We will never know what would have happened had Biden not been forced to drop out. 2020 had the largest turnout - with 168 million.
About 150M voted in 2024. 90M didn’t vote at all according to the US News & World Report. There’s nothing suspicious about any of these elections. They were all fair and square. The one that wasn’t was the debacle in 2000 with Gore and Bush.
It’s just one of those things where I think an audience is losing out on not going to a theater. This movie was on a screen about 70 feet wide - I am guessing - and the theater was packed. It started off slow and then ended in this mass frenzy. It’s something I will never forget. Plus, the movie in itself is so jarring. There was magic that I thought we’d never see again after COVID. But, of course, there is also nothing like going to a theater and being the only one there along with 3 other people. That’s another story. And then I have seen fantastic movies on my iPad - so who knows.
I bet you saw it on TV.
Sweet? It’s a precursor to what’s in store for Elizabeth. This very attractive male nurse (the one who introduces her to the “activator”) also turns into a decrepit aged person. So, it looks like no matter what, one of the two parties to this so-call fountain of youth project seems to opt out of following instructions. The doom is inevitable. Elizabeth sees for the first time in that coffee shop what is going to happen to her and the horror of it all. It’s very Dorian Gray. It’s not that aging is ugly but the way and why they aged that made them incredibly hideous.
An excellent movie that should have won the Oscar. Heath’s performance alone is a wonder to watch. A lot of the questions you are asking, you are asking in today’s time - this was in the 1960s. Made in 2005.
Ennis loved where he came from. He didn’t want to leave. Just as Brad Pitt in River Runs Through It and Legends of the Fall - these were cowboys that loved where they were born. And living there in that time was certain death and humiliation if he was found out. That’s why when Heath’s Ennis speaks his mouth is practically shut - he couldn’t let out his feelings. The younger Ennis saw what happened to those two gay men. And we all saw what happened to Jack. I don’t think he had that great of aspirations job wise.
It took you twenty years to watch it because you felt uncomfortable seeing two men - so maybe that can be your answer to the questions you are asking. This movie btw is a great love story and if you cried in Wuthering Heights, you will cry in this one. Lost love deeper than most. Abject loneliness in really lonely locales - like the moors of England or the American West.
This movie was supposed to be made in the late 90s by Gus Van Sant. Many actors were slated to play Ennis and Jack - Josh Hartnett as Ennis and a Joaquin Phoenix as Jack. There were also Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Ryan Phillippe and probably more attached to it - why it wasn’t - I can only assume someone probably thought that maybe the public wasn’t ready for it, even with straight actors and maybe the actors were also not ready. Apparently, the academy wasn’t either as it lost to Crash.
Poor Jodie.
