Episode 6 has not been released in the US. It’s on Peacock and you currently can only see episodes 1-5 with a drop next Thursday. Ep. 6 is available in the UK and some other countries but not the US. And you say you are American. You’re a real nut case. But you probably get that a lot. How can you watch ep 6. It hasn’t been released yet. You might have standards but I am not sure they are high and they are really just your preferences. This series is entertaining - it’s not great. The movie was. What is your opinion on the 1973 original? I can’t tell if you have seen the series or just the trailer? If you did see the series - how many episodes? I can’t tell you if you don’t like women in anything where they are in leadership roles - like Prime Suspect or Homeland? Or you just don’t like black women in anything. If you are such a movie buff - what are the last comments you’ve made on this website of movies that you liked. If the shoe was on the other foot, no one would ask Trump to step down especially his VP or a celebrity or senators or anybody no matter how cognitively impaired he was or is already. Good luck with Congress who has the authority to declare incapacitation - it would never happen. The disloyalty alone would be considered criminal. So quit blaming Biden. The truth is the Dems didn’t really have anybody. They only had him. It was et tu, Brute all the way with them. They kicked him to the curb. Trump says essentially the same thing. “He had the right to run and his party took it away.” And what Pelosi is now doing and others saying the same - on this post too - is disgusting. How many people already in office have to retire to give Harris a chance for a viable job. She is smart, extremely smart, and she will do okay but I don’t see her running in 2028. I see her maybe as California’s next governor. The first female president will probably be Republican. I can see you’re not a movie buff. Where are you from? Alfred Hitchcock movies Quentin Tarantino hates: Frenzy (1972) North by Northwest (1959) Vertigo (1958) If you are talking about the black actress who plays the MI6 character she is absolutely believable and perfectly cast. No, she is not Lebel in original who was just a really good French detective good at tracking. But the original was also set in 1962 after the failed assassination of de Gaulle and the French government was expecting another assassination attempt and wanted to get to the assassin before he struck again. And because de Gaulle ignored all kinds of security protection and the commemoration of the liberation of Paris during WWII was coming up, it had to be quick. This is 65 years later - there has to be some plot changes. Some cultural and social changes. The writers did change the story for the modern day but also made the Jackal less cold-blooded and actually a better person than MI6 character (so far) who in her obsession to locate the guy, has become worse than he is. She becomes deadly with her family and her colleagues. She’s a force to be reckoned with and as she is tough, smart and big and actually not very likable because she is responsible for so many innocent deaths. It all works. Give it a chance. See the original if you haven’t seen it and then give this one a try. It’s entertaining and thrilling. Of course, the first one, the 1973 is on best movie lists, but this one is fun. If all you did was watch a trailer or see a poster, it really narrows a view. What is? Who? Yes. Slight, quick, and cold-blooded. And in the movie and novel, verbatim: blond, tall, foreigner, jackal. He’s very similar to the Jackal in the original 1973 movie - Edward Fox. Did you see this movie or read the book because Redmayne is a really good choice. I think you’re assuming this “hardman” persona on your own when this isn’t the case at all. He’s not Reacher or Bourne. The Jackal is still a British male. Did you see the original ‘70s one? They are not following the original movie anyway. In that one there is a French detective and his assistant. But the whole premise of the original was to find who was going to assassinate de Gaulle. Plus, the Jackal was disappearing some people who were onto him like the woman who lived at that chateau and the gay guy in Paris bathhouse, not to mention the guy who did his papers and passport. Having a female as the detective is not that big of a thing since all the other stuff has changed. She is doing some reprehensible things however and is somewhat unlikable. I think she’s worse than the Jackal in how she’s leaving a trail of dead bodies. I love how there is an expanded sub-story of revenge by the Jackal over not getting paid. Like the original, there is a mole. There is a thing with the car on the road. A European travelogue. Effective torture. Gun in the boot. Elaborate disguises. And the gay encounter to hide from police. My opinion is that the ending in the novel and movies will not happen in this as they will probably go for a S2. Same as in the French Three Musketeers: Milady one. BTW the 1973 Day of the Jackal is on many best movies lists. On Kurosawa’s top 100 best movies for instance. His house was sold before election results. I actually think the “Hollywood” community have a lot of homes and apartments across the world. No one has just one dwelling. And most love Europe. Gere bought his CT home in 2022 from Paul Simon and he sold it 2 years later for a loss of $6M. There are a whole lot of Americans visiting Italy, France, Spain, Portugal. These countries are overwhelmed with American tourists. There also a lot of expats moving to Mexico and Costa Rica. The cost of living is less and the quality of life are better but it’s also hiking up prices for the locals. I know there’s a list of people saying they’re going to leave but they probably already have a place somewhere - so all they have to do is go there for a couple of months. I agree with you - they say they’re going to leave, but you don’t know if they are leaving because of Trump or for tax reasons or if they are making a movie. I just think these are hollow announcements and really, who cares. Gere now has young kids so his family life seems solidified in Madrid. And if you’ve been there, you can see why. His wife is Spanish-born. He’s moving to Madrid. She has family there. Why are you mentioning Cuba? Spain is fantastic. Especially Barcelona. The food, the people. Do you think he shouldn’t have sold his CT home? What’s the point of this post. You are not being nitpicky, you are quite correct actually - since it is a play, the dialogue is always going to be different than if it was an actual screenplay. I think this movie is very adult. Something you don’t often see - now. It is Mike Nichols and it is reminiscent of something he did earlier - Carnal Knowledge with Jack Nicholson and Ann-Margret and Candace Bergen and Art G - that was also a play by Jules Feiffer. Yes, it was originally a play. It premiered in 1997 at the Royal National Theatre in London. It won awards including the Olivier, Evening Standard, and New York drama Critics' Circle Awards. Portman and Owen received Oscar nominations. In the play, Clive Owen played Dan, but Jude Law played the role in the film. I loved this movie. It is raw. The dialogue was real. Less real is the likelihood of all four being together. The manipulations of love and possession. My favorite were the scenes with Portman and Owen because they were the jilted ones. Portman as a stripper and Owen as her client were gold. No. 10 should be The Ghost Writer. I believe. A really good movie. I agree with Repulsion being no. 1. This was a really really good movie. It was shocking. I would love to see it again but I don’t know where I can see it. And it’s not sexist - I took a glimpse at someone’s comments. Not accurate at all. Biden is ranked 14th on presidential rankings. On one, he is ranked 19th. “Post-1980, modern day presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden have landed in the top 20 of rankings, with Reagan and Obama often in the top ten.” Carter is no. 26. Trump is rated as one of the worst - bottom 4. They list how they arrived at their findings as they have categories and they go into depth of each president. You can google and read these rankings. No need to comment as I didn’t do the rankings. Top three are consistent - Lincoln, Washington, and FDR. The Blade Runner I saw the other day on the screen was the Final Cut though. I am lucky here because there is a whole colony of film enthusiasts - The American Cinemateque. 3 theaters widely dispersed in different areas of the city. The theater is always full. Lots of discussions. I pretty much think most of the people are in the film industry. Anyway, I think there are two Blade Runners on Prime Video - one is definitely the Final Cut and the other is not identified. I think it’s the original. I’m going to give it a shot. I just remember I loved it when I first saw it. I think the Final Cut is actually the Director’s Cut Plus. This is very interesting. Just the other day at a theater I saw for the first time the Final Cut (I am so confused with all the cuts, because there is a Director’s Cut as well - are they same or so similar that there isn’t enough definition to separate them). All I know is when I saw this Final Cut version - in a full theater - I just didn’t get the same feeling of joy as when I saw whatever one I saw which I assume was the theatrical release. There was no voiceover at beginning. I understand that Harrison Ford hated doing this and maybe others but it didn’t bother me as it was a little Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe. Also that original ending - which they called the “happy ending” didn’t bother me either as they were kind of in flight. Wasn’t the ending in DC somewhat a happy ending as well. For some reason, I thought there was more to Rutger’s last words and I thought there was a huge thing with Rachel’s family photo. And, this is important, I thought Rachel being a replicant was in question in the original. Unicorn scene addition is ok. Violence is fine. I didn’t recall rapey scene at all or maybe it was kind of accepted - didn’t bother me either. I will have to do what you did - watch both if I could find original. It looks like it’s on Prime Video but it doesn’t say theatrical or original cut and the length of this film is the same as the Final Cut - so I want to make sure before I purchase.
