I agree. Spacey always gave me the creeps. He reminds me of this Librarian in the Canadian National Library where I used to work when I was in my early 20s. This obviously gay man had the same Spacey-esque calm and smooth polished exterior but you could tell he was constantly checking all the young guys out and he was always making these slimy sexual innuendoes. His professional image was so smooth that he could easily deny any accusations and his superiors would believe him, but everyone who worked for him knew what he was all about.
If you want to end it that way, it has to be done like this: After the climactic battle and the wrap-up, the scene fades to a bunch of modern-day nerds sitting around a table. We see that the nerds are played by Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Nikolai Coster-Waldau and a few others, except they are made up to look unattractive: fat suits, oily hair, big glasses, zits, bad clothes. George R. R. Martin is sitting at the head of the table, grinning behind a Dungeon Master's screen as we see them all packing up their D&D manuals, dice and miniatures and BS-ing about the great gaming session they just had. Then they all head out to Pizza Hut and the credits roll.
I saw it when I was 15. My friend's father snuck his son, myself and another friend of ours into the drive-in where it was playing on a double bill with The Exorcist. I was terrified of The Shining but not so much of The Exorcist.
The parts of The Shining that scared me the most were the woman in the tub and this music piece:

After seeing the movie, I went out and bought the soundtrack and I used to sit in my bed with the lights out and listen to this on my headphones. Talk about terrifying!
How about the constant "Kubrick Stare" the actor does to try to make the clown more menacing? It looks like you said, a cartoon evil clown from Scooby Doo.
They should have kept the 1950s setting of the novel. It would have been way more interesting.
It;s only like 150 miles from Bangor Maine to the Canadian Border. Do you think the sun magically cuts off when it crosses the border or something?
BTW, they are also changing Babcock to a woman: Brianne Howey as Shauna Babcock.
Bronn shooting Drogon was probably the ONLY time in my adult life I have ever jumped up and cheered a TV show and that includes major sporting events.
Look how well that kind of casting worked out for "The Dark Tower" and "The Magnificent Seven".
Because that is the trendy in-the-now way of saying "kill you". Some movie or show in the last 5 years or so used that phrase and it caught on and now it's seen as edgy and cool.
Oh well, at least it's better than "Imma bust a cap in you, sucka!"
Back when GRRM was still on board, it would have been anyone's guess who would wind up on the throne in the end. Now, though, seeing the fan-service direction things are going, it's almost certain to be Jon/Aegon and Daenerys ruling jointly as King and Queen.
You should! I enjoyed Season 1 very much. Looking forward to the new season.
I get the feeling the writers just used up the character of Littlefinger and threw him away as they had no more need of him.
The Son
Westworld
If Martin was still involved, the ending would probably be bleak and brutal, but now without him to keep things fresh and unpredictable, it's just going to end with all the bad guys dead and a big wedding between Jon and Daenerys with the two of them flying off into the sunset on their matching dragons.
That's just a beacon that always burns there. It wasn't the library on fire.
I admit I enjoyed it too. It's nice to see part of this story put on film even if it's not exactly what you were hoping for.
I agree the kid should be younger. The Judge larger and more imposing, not to mention I was annoyed that Franco had the Judge speaking in a rustic backwoods vernacular. The Judge should come across as very articulate and cultured. The costuming put me off as well, but maybe that's not fair, as Franco apparently paid for the shoot out of his own pocket. The gang should have been wearing buckskins and not the "cowboy style" clothing they wore in this clip.
This footage also had a very claustrophobic feel to me. Blood Meridian should be done in a very expansive outdoor style. I am thinking along the lines of John Ford or David Lean.
The Coens are my current favorite for director, followed by Inarritu.
Judge Holden: Clancy Brown or Val Kilmer (if health issues allow)
John Glanton: Josh Brolin
The Kid: an unknown. Should look like a young Matt Dillon or Jackie Earl Haley. Kind of redneck and brutal.
Tobin: Scott Glenn did a great job in Franco's clip, and was a highlight, in my opinion.
Toadvine: Franco is very attached to this project, and as a consolation prize, I would allow him to be Toadvine. I think he would do a fine job.
All my film musings
Gone forever like old rains
Much wasted writing
As for myself, I read a lot of history books and like the first poster, I too play historical video games to get a feel for the various periods. Red Dead Redemption, Call of Duty World At War, Red Orchestra, Warband, all of these and many others can give you a visual and emotional sense of the period that does not come as strongly from books. Admittedly, most games are not 100% historically accurate, but it's a good start.
I was getting more and more "D'oh" messages until it was almost frustrating to access any message board. I had been reading the forum for the movie "Jeremiah Johnson" and then my son wanted to play Roblox on my PC since his is laggy. I made a sandwich and came back a half hour later and they were gone. I felt kind of hollow and sad and then I searched Yahoo and found this place. Thanks so much for this site!
