Came across this on You Tube and have been rewatching it.
I think it holds up pretty well. Solid cast. Pretty faithful to the book, as I remember it. The TV movie budget holds it back at times.

It was very faithful to the book. That is one of the reasons (although not the only one) that I liked it as much as I did.
I couldn't care less what Behar thinks.
I'm watching it on youtube off and on. While I concede it doesn't deserve an Oscar, it is still a fun film.
Agreed. She was cute in this film. It's on youtube now.
Even though I disagree vehemently with Ford here, I still like and respect him as an actor.
My wife watched it with me the other day, and while I concede that she didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did, I still think that she enjoyed it.
As for me, this remains one of my all-time favorite movies/mini-series.
Was that Hunter Biden concerning the laptop?
I wish that we could get this thread going again. Does anyone have something that they can add or maybe a question about the book or the 1994 miniseries?
When Dick Cheney endorsed Harris, I lost most of my respect for him.
What an enjoyable thread!!!!
The only time I have seen or heard the term, it was used by Blacks, Asians and Hispanics to distinguish them from Whites. Personally I don't use the term; all I was doing was saying how I understood its' meaning.
As I understand the term 'POC', it means non-white.
Yeah right.

They didn't butcher the novel. They just took the title and made an entirely different story and used some of the same character names.

I have to disagree with you. To me, their making too many changes in the source material is butchery. You can call it what you want; I call it butchery.
I've wondered the same thing.
having a bad day are we?
To me, it was annoying rather than confusing.
Agreed. The way they did it in this series could be confusing to anyone who hasn't read the book.
Agreed. While I respect Doss' zeal and commitment to his faith, I don't agree with his belief that the Scriptures advocate absolute pacifism, as the Israelites were commanded by God to go to war and also to execute the death penalty against persons found to have committed certain crimes. Scripture also provides for killing in legitimate self-defense.
Also, as you so ably point out, many modern translations of the Bible render the Sixth Commandment as 'You shall not murder.' To hold otherwise, that is, that ALL taking of life is prohibited, makes absolutely no sense, as we all kill to live, even those who hold to absolute pacifism.
My point, and I believe yours is as well, is that the Scriptures make certain logical exceptions to the Sixth Commandment.
Kudos.
