IDK. Teenage boys are quickly smitten & horny, old men aren't picky.
Very disappointing. Terrible Christmas message; actually the only thing Christmas about this movie was the fact they sold Christmas trees - they barely sold Christmas trees.
One could say something similar about A Charlie Brown Christmas, no? Recently read the Shales/Miller book on SNL & it seems like the show breaks down neatly into 5 year "eras", with each one having a distinct vibe. Like you say, 70s was classic. Early 90s was something of a renaissance. Late 00s were defined by the digital shorts. Book only goes up to about 2010 & it left me wondering how to define the past decade. Show has its ups/downs & there's no reason it can't go back up. But past few years have been rough. Reviewers said "Anyone But You" was such a breath of fresh air because Hollywood isn't making many mid-budget movies. Big budget Disney movies & low budget straight-to-streaming are sucking up all the oxygen. So there aren't that many quality rom-coms being made. Same applies to slapstick stuff. I'll have to check it out. He was written as a douche to make Pauley Shore seem likable. It's not that deep. True. Though I will say that Hyde downplaying his race was accurate to his era just as Gwen flaunting it was to her era. ...as absentee fathers. They're absolutely there to look pretty. Like it or not, it's how they monetize these events. I thought the show was set in an exurb or college town. Not really "rural", as some in other threads have suggested. The cast should be slightly more racially mixed than the original version. 70s had 2 minorities: Fez & Hyde. Hyde had a black dad despite looking white. New show has 3 in Ozzie, Gwen & Nikki. Net gain of 1. That seems about right. Double standard? The women switched to biker shorts, not board shorts like the men. Physical beauty is part of the draw for spectator sports. We accentuate it differently because we are different. Men wear tank tops because they show off the guns. Women wear form-fitting stuff because it accentuates the hips. Crying about "misogyny" is an easy way to get attention from NBC. Imagine believing history is a beeline towards progress. BTW, didn't they already start w/ the swimmers in scuba suits? Good to see people waking up to the truth that yoga pants are NOT sexy. Most of these points are extremely weak & not worth addressing. Why didn't you mention inflation? I will agree J6 was an embarrassing hissy fit by sore losers. The rioters were a mess. That was the whole problem. Hitler's violence, OTOH, was carefully structured. Electoral politics were a last resort. Fascists share a core belief with communists that the process corrupts everyone involved. Violent takeover is their preferred path to power. That's an important difference. I guess I can see that. But I always saw that scene as more about Scar being menacing than the loss of Mufasa. Fair. If it ever was remade, it would be them trying to "pass" as seniors. Recently saw an episode of Family Feud where the survey question was "Name a Disney movie with a scene that made you cry". Frozen was one of the answers. Little Mermaid, Toy Story & Lion King were up there. I don't really get those, either. I think people were just naming the 1st movie that came to mind. Old Yeller, Bambi & Dumbo were answers that made sense to me. Good grief, she's in her 60s & you guys are like "would not bang". Bit of a tangent but phone companies in America were pretty monopolistic. They were seen as a basic necessity, so their 'turf' was protected by the state. My father told me how they billed customers for hooking up a 2nd landline phone in their houses. They had some way of testing the resistance on the line & could "see" the additional phone. I'm also old enough to remember when there were surcharges for caller ID. A normal company would roll out these features as standard to attract/keep customers. American phone companies didn't because they didn't have to. This might explain why post-communist countries were faster switching to cellular. They were in the process of rejecting the command economy. Well, they were kids so...
