Too many blacks in this, couldn't get into it. Too much diversity.
I just find blacks in costume dramas too jarring. Too woke and too much diversity for me.

shareI don't eat much sugar but today I ate 3 big chocolate chip cookies.
OMFG
GOOOOOOOOOOD
This kind of diversity is the future of entertainment, embrace it.
shareWhat you find to be jarring is actually quite striking, and I think having people of color in historical dramas is a great thing.
shareThat's cos you're a brainwashed woke F.
shareI might not agree with what you're saying, but I'll defend your right to say it.
Wokeness is a great thing. Diversity is our strength, and all that.
That's the thing about slogans. You don't think about them you just say them.
We Are All One ! Diversity Is Our Strength !
These two slogans contradict each other but the Woke Folk are too blissed out with patting themselves on the back for being "inclusive" to notice.
I didn't want to contribute to this thread, but I just wanted to point out that the quote you posted isn't a Voltaire quote, though it is often mistaken as one. It was stated by Evelyn Beatrice Hall. Just for clarification

I suppose you also find it a great thing when unicorn prance around farting rainbows in a historical drama set in the American west.... the reality is if you want to do a historical drama then you need to be true to the basics of the time and place the drama is set in. So the first question is whether you would actually have seen a great number of black aristocrats in the the UK at this time? And the answer is no you wouldn't. Just like you wouldn't see romans driving SUV if you were watching a historical drama set in ancient Rome. If people want to make diversity movies then set them in a time and place where they actually would make sense... which is generally only in places like California and no further back than maybe 1970's. Otherwise diversity has never really existed and the economic ceiling that keeps blacks on the lower rungs of society have existed throughout time.
I know the theory that if you show blacks as successful members of society that it will push blacks to try and live up to that fantasy, that was the theory they used when they created the Cosby Show... but guess what, it doesn't work. So stop trying to push fairytales as if they are good, it doesn't make anyone happy beyond woke idiots that don't want to face the reality of what history was really like.
Props to the creators of this show for not being concerned with offending the fragile sensibilities of white supremacist, lowlife cowards & just did their own thing in the way of artistic license with colorblind casting.
shareIt's not really colorblind casting when the intent is to cast people of color with the express purpose of mixing people into interracial relationships.
There's a term for that... it's called racism.
Let's just ignore the extreme hyperbole and conjecture of your statement for a minute & just go with it for now. So it isn't the alt reich, white supremacist types, whining & crying at a show for depicting an interracial relationship who are the racist lowlifes here but rather the "purposefulness" of the interracial relationship itself that is the "real" racist? That's what we're going with now? JFC...
share"offending the fragile sensibilities of white supremacist"
Difficult to believe anyone could write such a stupid sentence without blushing.
They casting was racially motivated to avoid offending the woke warriors and HR departments that thought they needed to fulfill a quota based on race. The show should have been cast based on the history of the time not the current time.
shareIt would work better if it was a fantasy story. Nobody minds it so much then.
shareI've noticed some posters here weirdly call it a fantasy, which it is not but an adaption of a book set in the Regency era. 🤷‍♂️
shareIt's a historical romance. Have you ever read one? Those are sexual fantasies.
shareGet it right, an historically incorrect romance, aka as a poor adaption.
shareThey did get it right which explains the record-breaking ratings. Perfect escapism and fantasy!
Months later, millions of women are still swooning over Simon. That's success!
In 1956 The Conqueror was a success too. Perfect escapism and fantasy! It did great at the box office!
I'm not defending that awful movie, but years from now people may think the same of historically incorrect adaptions like Bridgerton as they do The Conqueror.
I doubt it.
Unlike Conquerer, Bridgerton doesn't demean any group.
I notice certain people only complain when black people are in a movie or TV show. There was plenty of complaining about black actors in the fictions Lost in Space and Star Wars, too.
Colour blind casting as shown in Bridgerton demeans history, slavery was still going on in the British Empire until 1833, it having been made illegal to purchase slaves from Africa in 1807.
I hope people years from now will value context in historical drama with a little more tact and knowledge than filmmakers of today and the 1950's.
Black Tudors would be an excellent history book for you to read since you're such a connoisseur of history.

If only you protested as vigilantly the decades of white-only casting of cowboys in Westerns even though 1/3 were black or Mexican.
It's obvious you didn't even watch Bridgerton. It was not a colorblind society and has a clear explanation. You just want to complain about racial equality.
I dislike both blackwashing and whitewashing equally, I'm not a hypocrite.
shareCan you give me the link(s) to any of your many previous comments complaining about whitewashing?
shareHollywood whitewashing was overt and common in the 1950’ and 1960’s, today it’s very rare compared to blackwashing which happens often. The two are incomparable in their frequency.

I'm still waiting for your link! I'm going to assume you're a liar and racist who only complains when black people are in films/TV shows. Don't disappoint me.
Assume all you want, it’s what you’ve been doing from the start of this convo. Ignoring your idiotic demands and abuse seems to rattle you though, sad that you have to rely on insults but thanks for the laughs!
shareIf this is a period drama wouldn't there not be any black people in it to be accurate to the time? Why is that a problem? It shouldn't be.
shareActually, King George, III's wife, Queen Charlotte is of Portuguese descent. You can google her pic, and you'll see that she is, or looks like a mulatto. Color has been made an issue once slaves were exported to the new world. So if you look at it, that racism hadn't evolved to what it is, could this be accurate? Just a thought.
shareYou can google her pic, and you'll see that she is, or looks like a mulatto.
This all depends upon whether that many of the paintings of her are even real. The group in charge are inveterate liars and they like to fake art.
Many of the pictures depict Charlotte looking very...inbred. Which is extremely likely. She has the Hapsburg jaw and the strange features look like she suffered from some kind of syndrome due to inbreeding.
Everyone should take a look at the Spanish royalty, she looks exactly like them.
OP you are correct. I wish POC all the good fortune in the world in achieving their cinematic dreams; however, the population of black people in this historic-period drama is ridiculous. It would take not just a complete disregard for reality, but hostility toward it to accept such nonsense, but that is what postmodernism (wokeness, progressivism, leftism) is all about. Anyone who embraces this can only do so because he or she has no intellectual connection with history or rationality.
Hate me, woke-oids. Do you think I care?
I just wish the Hollywood idiots that love this racial quota casting would use the demographics of the present. At the moment 12% in the US are black, so clearly this show has too damn many... and where in the fuck are the Hispanics and Asians? If you want to do quota based casting there are more than just blacks and whites in the world, so if being fair is the goal do it right.. otherwise don't do it at all and just cast based on the time period of the movie your making.
shareIt's highly stupid.
And hypocritical since the same people that are praising "diversity" would freak out about a white playing a non white character.
Or even hypocritical and ignorant and freaking out over a white (kinda) actor playing a white character ...
Having a movie with black vickings would be for them heaven while having a movie with white africans would be a deadly affront ...
Btw "diversity is out strength" is a lie. Look at the US: it was at it's peak when it was 80% + white.
They praise Sweden, Denmark for how high their life standards are but fail to see how non-diverse the population is. And funny enough with enforced diversity the problems started to arise ... like the rape rates through the roof, majority committed by the ... diverse ... population.
Same in UK, France and other places.
And still, against these facts, they still say "diversity is our strenght" - well, it isn't.
It's all propaganda to brainwash people into giving up their rights, foregoing their culture, and indulging in societal vices that essentially intellectually cripple the populace so they become welfare-ready recipients of big government, which in turn is controlled by big tech.
Diversity is definitely our enemy, and it's destroyed more than just streaming television, it's also destroyed the comic book industry, the video game industry, and the REAL LIFE lives of people who have been subjected to refugee rapists and terrorists due to open border policies.
Streaming TV, comics, video games and people are alive, well and living strong. It is your outdated racist views on life that are threatened.
