the REAL reason it won so many Oscars...

...is because it is a great film with excellent performances that a lot of people enjoyed. That is all.

reply

No, that's not it.

reply

Good acting, but a poor script.

reply

What was poor about it?

reply

The not being rich part.

reply

Jumped around too much, some of it like the hotdog fingers was too silly. But its not like I dislike the film as a whole.

reply

THAT ISN'T POOR...THAT IS NOT YOUR TASTE...BIG DIFFERENCE.

reply

I can be a film critic if I want. Blunt is better than wishy-washy.

reply

I think that disliking something doesn't make it poor quality. There are a lot of good quality things in life that I am not a fan of. There are a lot of Oscar winners that I don't like as well. I just am not sure that I agree that your reasons here are what make it poor.

I think that the point of everything, everywhere all at once was to jump around a lot. That's what the title implies. A few of the scenes weren't to my taste either, but that was my preference.

reply

In my subjective opinion the script was poor. No one has to agree with me.

reply

There are some things though which aren't subjective. I mean I can tell you that in my subjective opinion the ocean is made up of fresh water but I'd be incorrect. Now don't get me wrong, I think you have every right to dislike the movie, to not like the story, to not like any part of it, but that doesn't make the script poor. I mean they did win for best original screenplay, so again, even if you don't like it, it does have merit.

reply

Hot dog fingers aren't as silly as a 60 year old Navy Test Pilot

reply

Now imagine that test pilot with hotdog fingers. :)

reply

It's because the Oscars is a popularity contest and they decided to be woke and patronize those who gave us the China Virus.

reply

Nonsense. It's an American movie filmed in the U.S.

reply

The Oscars are voted on by those who may not have even seen the movie.
They will let their bias at times help them with their choice.
This year they decided to give asians a break.

reply

I haven't seen any evidence that any academy thought let's give Asians a break. They might have voted for the film or for one of the actors because they are friends with them or had worked with them before or are a fan of them, but I don't buy this nonsense about voting for an actor or film because it has Asians in it. More than likely, most of the people who voted for it did so because they genuinely enjoyed the film.

reply

They changed the rules where now a movie has to have more diversity in the cast (Maybe the crew? I dunno) in order for it to be nominated.

reply

Right, but that doesn't mean that anyone has to vote for the film because of diversity.

reply

Well, I think being woke being forced upon them plays a part in their votes.

reply

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6710474/ dude, it's generally a very highly regarded movie.

reply

If this had been an all white cast in the same movie getting the same praise it would not have even been considered for nomination.

The Oscars always has been and always will be this self congratulatory sham.
They are forcing being woke on themselves and on us and it should not be that way.

reply

Isn't that by their rules, as opposed to being hated?

reply

Yes, it is their rules and they can do what they want.
Just that I think it should be by choice and not forced.

I have not seen the movie and dunno if I will.
I saw a preview and it looks like it is the special effects that is what it is all about.

Instead of Oscars I prefer the Razzies.
They keep it real.

reply

It could have still been white majority and won

For the 94th Oscars (2022) and 95th Oscars (2023), submitting a confidential Academy Inclusion Standards form will be required for Best Picture consideration, however meeting inclusion thresholds will not be required for eligibility in the Best Picture category until the 96th Oscars (2024).

reply

That's one of. It does not preclude the film being majority white.

reply

They will not allow movies with all white casts to be nominated anymore.
I showed you the rules.
What of that don't you get?

reply

Being MAJORITY white is not the same as being EXCLUSIVELY white

reply

What dumb rules to have since all those things are all ready happening in movies.

reply

How does this film patronize those who gave us the "China Virus"?

The leads were Malaysian and American. The major supporting characters were American and Costa Rican. The directors and producers are American.

Were you thinking of a different film all together?

reply

See my conversation with Skavau above to see what I mean and also where I include the rules for nominees.

reply

I think you're being evasive. Exactly how does this film "patronize those who gave us the China Virus". Are you saying that Americans gave us Covid-19?

reply

The trailer did not make it appealing at all so I never watched it. But so many people keep raving about it. IDGI

reply

You should check it out and decide for yourself.

I normally would report a comment like this. But seeing as it's a near certainty that it's true, I'm not going to. πŸ‘πŸ‘
