WW2 is always interesting, so Dunkirk may be up there with Oppenheimer, but it was a poor experimental movie. And Tenet was even worse. I hope Oppenheimer is a different kind of beast.
Compare "Batman Begins" to "The Batman" and you'll understand why.

I'm hoping "Oppenheimer" doesn't make the same mistakes.
The way they make movies nowadays? It'll be waaayyy overdone. This story has literally been told dozens and dozens of times. This is just another Hollywood rehash.

And rehashes/reiterations are not always done in vain, The Fly, The Thing, Heat, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Insomnia, The Departed, are a few examples of films being redone in which they exceeded or were on par with their predecessors, imo that is.

I recall some things being "juiced up" in "Fat Man" -- I don't believe they actually happened. I can't mention one because if it DID, that will spoil this film.
I think with historical dramas, more than one "take" in more than one decades is OK.
We've had at least three theatrical Titanic movies:
Titanic(1953) Old Hollywood version.
A Night to Remember(1957) British version.
Titanic (1997) New Hollywood CGI version
and several TV movie versions.
We've had at least four Pearl Harbor movies:
From Here to Eternity(1953)
In Harm's Way(which OPENS with the Pearl Harbor attack) (1965)
Tora Tora Tora (1970 American Japanese co-production)
Pearl Harbor (2001 New Hollywood CGI version.)
So I think we can handle another Oppenheimber tale. I definitely want to see it.
But this: Paul Newman made a more handsome General than Matt Damon will...but I think the real guy was short and stout.
This is my dilemma. I cannot stand Matt Damon as I think he's a very bad actor in almost every movie he's in. Bad, as in he ruins the whole movie. However, I did enjoy him in 2 of the Bourne movies, but that's about it. The ending to The Departed? Blah!
shareThe main attraction here is more Cillian Murphy, who is an excellent actor, rather than Nolan. I have almost always found Nolan's films to be emotionally inert, except for when a great casting choice like Guy Pearce in "Memento," Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight," Matthew McConaughey in "Interstellar" and potentially Murphy here in "Oppenheimer," bring the emotional content Nolan's films need.

Fat man felt like a TV-movie. Doesn't have the same scope, even with Paul Newman in the lead. Nothing wrong with making a new version of this story. Nice try OP.
