Enjoyable enough, but the ending.......(spoilers)

It was too sudden. Dragon shows up, looks at the queen, and roasted her. The end.

Elodie riding in on the dragon would've been spectacular, and the dragon actually dropping down to speak (cause I've no idea if anyone knew the dragon could talk?), would've had more impact. Have a quick conversation with shocked Queen Jenny before she burned her ass, along with anyone else who deserved it.

Overall, it was a pretty entertaining movie. CGI was good, and the wardrobe department went all out. I'd like to see a follow-up with Elodie and the dragon. Hopefully by then she'll have a name.

I didn't mind the ending too much. Kinda badass having her walk in all tattered clothes and ferocious. Brown surprised me here. I didn't think she'd make a good action heroine but the movie plays to her skills a lot. And the special effects and production were terrific.

If anyone's interested, I reviewed the movie on my youtube channel. Appreciate any feedback. Trying to improve -https://youtu.be/5Vgx2EXoTdQ

How did she get into the wedding on foot, what if the guards seized her? The details of the movies are not great. What she did would only make sense if she was a Targaryen, but she was not.

Also they wanted to show she was a good princess by having her and her sister gathering and chopping woods without any guards in the beginning, that is also not very believable.

After they saw the palace Elodie said:"I think I had a rather limited definition of wealthy.", I was like where did you see that? It is nothing compared to the palace of Versailles I have seen in France. I don't think the graphic designers and the script writers were on the same page.

Also that dragon killed a lot of people, not just the princesses, she burned the kingdom, but it looked like Elodie befriended the monster in the end, instead of one time deal.

There was a reason they worked together, what are the reasons they stayed together? Common interests?

I notice in almost every movie that shows a person chopping wood with an axe that it's always the easy "slicing" part and never the hard part, the wood splitting. They make wood chopping look easy. If all I had to do was that final axe slice I'd do it every day.

reply

That is true, I am guessing she bought the wood from a supplier, because they looked like been cut by a saw :)

And the wood was more likely for the fireplace in her room, at least judging from the quantity.

reply

She wasn’t a princess at the beginning I don’t think.

Her father was definitely a lord if not a king, they don't just marry anyone.

reply

Yes certainly a Lord

Thanks for the spoiler! ♥
Yah, the Queen could've roasted longer.

Drogon (GoT) was also more effective at laying the entire city in ashes.

I left the movie with the same impression. It was very entertaining. But I wish we spent more time with the evil queen and her court, explore their point of view and demise in more detail. As you said, it was very sudden. I guess they didn't want to make the movie longer.

reply

Yeah, that would have given the movie more depth, but they went with the straight and simple villain routine, probably wanted to spend more time on the dragon.

Hmmm - I'm more concerned with the bit where the chick nearly killed the dragon, where everyone else, including every warrior failed (and no, I'm not talking about the fire trick - it's her nearly taking out the dragon with knife and swords prior to that that smelled of the 'woke female-empowerment)).

Now, you could say it's been done before in Alien/aliens - but there she used weapons, not knives, so no need for physical strength - Ok, that too was BS - lol

Anyways - I liked the film up to that JI-Jane moment. If she used her mind to trick the dragon from the get go, without nearly killing the dragon with swords, I would have been down with the whole thing and would have given this film a high score - great acting, sets, creature, dialogue, etc, but as it is... nope, another female being stronger and more skillful in martial arts BS (a princess at that, lol).

Hollywood... I can only hope the disney castle burns down soon the same way the castle did in this film, since I see that as the main representation of Hollywood these days.

End of rant.

My problem with the ending is…..we are supposed to decide the dragon is just a hurt misunderstood creature….that would never have killed all these “innocent” women that were just kinda disguised as royalty…because she really thought she was just killing a bunch of great-great-great-great granddaughters of a guy who did a terrible thing….because of course those girls woulda really deserved it.

reply

Um, no. We are not supposed to think that and the movie never tried to convey that message. The dragon has no problem with killing. We see that when she takes revenge on the royal family and their court. However, Elodie earned her trust and now they will work together in the future, which will help Elodie's kingdom grow in power for sure.

reply

Um….yes….the movie ends like they are all buddies…traveling on the seas together….dont know what you talking about.

reply

That is in line with what I said :(

Honestly not horrible for a Netflix movie. And comparing it to other Netflix movies only, it could be a 9/10.
