Amazing casting in every way except

Uncle Fester wasnt fat enough for me. I never really like Portlandia so seeing that actor playing Fester made me discriminate the performance right away. love all the other casting choices tho

reply

Yeah, I thought he was the wrong pick, too.

reply

He was good. Christopher Lloyd's version wasn't very chubby, either.

reply

Idk about weight, but he was definitely miscast, as was Gomez imo. I was kinda hoping they'd get David Krumholtz to play Fester, it would've been such a cool throwback to Addams Family Values and he's gotten heavier I believe (no judgement), so it would've been perfect imo.

I thought Gomez performance was amazing. I love that he isnt a classic hollywood pretty boy. He is ugly and short but makes up for it in strides with charisma and eloquent speaking. This really brings the role back to its original comic book form. The hollywoodize pretty boy Gomez is forgettable in the 1990s Adams family I barely remember him as a character. Here in this version he outshines Morticia as the most likable adult character. Morticia just isn't hot enough for me in the face during this installment, her body is amazing but Cathra Zeta Jones botoxed up face just looks unattractive (i dont mind her being old but the plastic surgery ruins it for me, I absolutely love milfs but not the plastic fake looking ones, a natural wrinkled face is a million times hotter than a botox weird looking one without wrinkles in my opinion)

reply

That's a sad double standard, with you being happy Gomez isn't played by a typical pretty boy but disappointed Morticia isn't hot enough. I found there was a strong lack of charisma from both actors, but the writing kinda intends that because everyone has been watered down to let Wednesday shine. I think Catherine ZJ is just pulling it off, whereas Luis G isn't. But hey, different takes on a show we both enjoyed, no problem.

reply

it is a double standard but as a straight males that is how i watch movies

reply

Being a straight male isn't a hall pass for sexism, my dude coz #notallmen. Acknowledging that sexism means you're capable of change.

reply

As a straight male I would makes movies and watch movies geared towards straight males. Its not sexist to know ur audience. action and explosions to keep the audience interested, sexy girls to keep the audience excited, and a not overly good looking yet charming main lead to keep a "common man" feel. Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt might be great to keep female audiences entertained in chick flicks but movies geared towards straight dudes would rather have a fat funny main lead that they can better compare themselves too. That fat guy from Balls of Fury gets me so stoked when I see him on screen, never feel that way when seeing a pretty boy chick flick actor in the movies

I understand what you're saying and you're allowed to like what you like, and of course some of that will be media that is specifically targeted toward you, but being a straight male doesn't have to be your entire identity to the point you're depriving yourself of enjoying a variety of things. You can be a whole person, not just a man or straight. You're allowed to enjoy movies where a leading woman isn't attractive or even a love interest, even if her costar is an attractive dude. Writing movies and women characters off because they're apparently not doing their only job of being hot - or not being hot enough - while not holding any of the male actors up to the same standard because you're just a straight dude, that's sexist.

I'm not a male and I like actions movies, buddy comedies, movies featuring a predominantly male cast. I'm not a kid and I love kids movies. I'm not American or French or Japanese or Korean, but I love films from all those countries. I'm a woman and yet I don't love every female-centred film or every rom-com in existence, though I enjoy some like I enjoy movies from almost every other genre. I don't have any attraction toward Ryan Gosling or Brad Pitt; only movie featuring Ryan Gosling I like is Remember the Titans, and while Brad Pitt is straight up annoying to me, I do like him in films where his acting is outstanding (his comedic acting is quite good imo). I would rather see Jack Black as a lead in a film than either of these two men. I assume you're talking about Dan Fogler, although he's not fat now - he's awesome in a lot of movies, particularly the Fantastic Beasts ones. I'm not a wizard, but I did love him in those films. See how it works? As a person, you can like things outside of one aspect of your own identity.

reply

yeah i watched that Fantastic Beasts movie and was so stoked to see Dan Fogler have a more serious mainstream role, he kicks ass and so does Jack Black!

reply

Dan Fogler is half the Fantastic Beast movies to me, alongside Alison Sudol. It was great to see Dan outside of The Goldbergs, which is mainly where I've seen him.

reply

I never watched him in The Goldbergs but know of the show. Awesome to know he continued his career successfully after Balls of Fury I always though he disappeared until seeing him in Fantastic Beasts

reply

Straight dudes like hot chicks. That's never gonna change, no matter how much you whinge about it.

reply

Where did I say that was wrong or whinge about it?

reply

“As a straight males” Are you Siamese twins.

I WILL applaud you for not calling yourself “a man.”

reply

what're you mean about 'eloquent speaking'? I'm not familiar with him. could u please explain?

reply

he uses these big words that sounds like they should be coming from some old british guy

reply

I agree. This guy is everywhere. (Fred Armisen)
Ever since Saturday Night Live.
I don't know how he keeps getting gigs!

reply

He thinks he's a drummer, too, but he sucks at it.

reply

I was actually fine with Uncle Fester. I dont like Fred Armisen in general. But he was tolerable. Better then Christopher Lloyd even. Because Christopher Lloyd’ Fester was looking very dumb. While this Fester looked smart and half-crazy.

reply

IMHO I think Fester, Gomez, and Morticia were all bad castings. Now I'm basing my opinions off the movies which I grew up with, and the little bit I've seen of the old TV show.

Now I know all the online back and forth about how Luiz Guzman is closer to the comic counterpart of Gomez, and I get that. However IDK at the end of the day maybe we were just spoiled rotten with Raul Julia who was a force in the role, as was Chris Lloyd, and Angelica Huston.

Catherine Zeta Jones looks like Morticia, but that's about it. I like her, but not her acting here. As brief as it maybe.
Fester - don't like the performance. It just comes across hammy, and the voice is over the top.
Gomez - Again we were spoiled by Raul Julia. Raul was a force of nature as Gomez. He was hilarious, charismatic, badass, all of the above. Whereas Guzman (who I typically enjoy) was just a weak, pathetic slob.

I really like the show and I think they 80% nailed it overall. But these three castings (as brief as their screentime maybe) is just too hard to overlook.
