Mostly negative reviews...Wait for streaming?

All the reviews I've come across have been overwhelmingly negative. None have said it's the worst movie ever, but the general consensus seems to indicate it is boring to sit through and not enjoyable.

I loved the first one but I'll wait for this one to hit streaming.

It's a disappointing film – but I suspect that's exactly what it's meant to be.
why would anyone set out to make a disappointing film?

That is a weird thing to say.

I think the director and lead actor both say they wanted this one to be the final movie (no Part 3). So they may have sought a weak movie just to dismiss the notion or desire for another sequel

reply

I think it was more like they didn't care about the audience or critic reaction. They just made the movie that they wanted to.

To back you up, I believe Joel Schumacher purposely ruined the Batman films he made to not have to make them any longer.

Tim Burton seemed to also do that with Planet of the Apes.

I'll wait for streaming. I liked the first one but this one doesn't look that good.

reply

I found this a real chore to sit through. There's absolutely nothing to it. You could wait for streaming and it would be fine

If anyone's interested, I reviewed the movie on my youtube channel. Appreciate any feedback. Trying to improve -https://youtu.be/DtbfTOnq1gE

It is boring. Walked out after 15 minutes. A first for a Phoenix film.

reply

And it's over 2 hours long too. Sitting in a theater watching a 2+ hour boring film....no thanks lol.

reply

serious? ... you pay all that money, and you leave after 15 mins? Lots of great movies start off weakly (not saying this movie is good or anything. Just saying that walking out after 15 mins seems questionable)

reply

Yeah, every legitimate movie deserves a chance, particularly if you just blew $11 for your seat.

reply

Well then your opinion literally means nothing

First positive review I've come across. The reviewers here think it's better than the first

I'm waiting for the digital release. Being disappointed after watching something you pirated is not as bad as paying for it.

Just got out of seeing it and it’s pretty much as bad as you’ve heard. The script is terrible, it’s as if Todd Phillips wrote one draft, turned it in and the studio just went full steam ahead with it. It’s derivative and lifeless as both a character study and a courtroom drama.

Also it’s rather redundant as a musical, instead of writing good, original songs they just get Phoenix and Gaga to do a bunch of covers, it all feels very lazy.

Phoenix is great though, at least he got a good payday out of this because he truly does deliver on his performance once again.

Me too. Streaming has become the "in way" to see movies.
