Is only me, or Reeves is usless as an actor?
He plays everywhere the same, no matter Matrix or Street Kings, he's totally unconvincing. Apart from his character the movie was GREAT !!!

shareHe is good for the Matrix, Pointbreak and Bill and Ted's franchise. So I guess he is not completely useless. Agree?
shareReeves is a good actor, his acting is different and so does the characters he chooses to portray. You say he's wooden, well I wouldn't expect Klaatu, the alien, to portray any emotions. His Neo was completely different than Ludlow, and if you don't see it then too bad.
I love Keanu Reeves for being a dedicated actor that never goes for a role that's too big for him.
It's only you. I found that Reeves was the best part of the movie, and that he's grown up. Compare him to Ted in his earliest movies. He was a beautiful kid, but not much of an actor. In this film, which struck me as being mainly a cop out in the end, and a proponent of the idea that my friend has and says in an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent: Yes, but they were ALL bad. You can do anything you want to someone in a movie as long as you prove that in the end you were right and they were bad.
I want to know how many people are killed, maimed, or injured every year in this country by the police. I have a strong feeling that it's a lot and it's something we seldom hear about. Because if the cop did it, he's good and his victim is bad. In the city where I live, there's a yearly foot race to honor a rotten cop who was harassing a guy who turned out to be armed and crazy. The cop had no reason to be at this man's door, and he didn't have to die. But we're supposed to honor him.
So I agree much more with the featured review than I do with your comment. Besides, Ellroy is one of the toughest writers I've ever read and movies based on his book with screenplays written partly by him are going to be above average. He is not a hack, and Keanu Reeves is no longer Ted or Neo--therefore, he's a better actor who seems to me to finally have grown up. And he's still pretty.
I also don't like him, he is definitely not a good actor. In "Street Kings" I thought he was quite okay, but he ruined films like "Matrix" for me...
shareI couldn't agree more! I just found out he'll be playing my favorite character in an anime adaptation, that's a killer.
As per the Matrix I agree with the following statement:
''Reeves’ legendary lack of expression found its magical apotheosis in The Matrix, where he’s largely called upon to serve as a pale, polished mannequin messiah modeling a series of leather costumes and stylish shades. The movie is all flash, effects, and killer style, and doesn’t require anything as complicated as acting out of its star. Reeves obliges with a glassy-eyed, cold performance that matches the film’s glassy, cold aesthetic perfectly. The Matrix is about the junction of man and machine, and the legendarily robotic Reeves naturally comes across at both.''
So yeah, I liked the Matrix but I don't believe he's a good actor for that reason. While watching Street Kings I just kept thinking that every darn second role (I was especially impressed by Hugh Laurie's performance) was better than the main character.
I still can't believe he'll be playing my favorite anime character :(
So disappointing!

Ya know. I think he can act if he tries very hard. He is not a natural or a great actor, but he can get it done. He has done a good job picking certain movies that roll with his stiff style of acting. I think he is average, but there is nothing wrong with that if the movies are good. There hav been several actors over the years far worse who have made pretty darn good movies, too.

In regards to acting, Keanu has one of the smallest ranges I have ever seen in a high profile actor. With that being said that doesn't mean he cant act. It just means he has a small range and roles like this one are absolutely PERFECT for him. This was easily Keanu's best role yet and he did an outstanding job in it.
I actually give the guy credit for picking the kinds of roles that are best suited to his ability. The man obviously understands his limitations and he seeks out roles that he knows he can pull off. I respect that. People ripping on Keanu's acting ability is like people ripping on Uwe Bolle's directing ability, Its called bandwagon hating. Again I am the first one to admit the man has a very small range in regards to acting but again that doesn't mean he cant act and this movie, and his performance, were both outstanding.
Apart from his character the movie was great? He was on screen 95% of the time. If his performance was half as bad as your suggesting, there is no way you could have enjoyed this film as much as you obviously did. In fact you would have hated it. The truth of the matter is you enjoyed this film because Keanu did a great job. You just cant see this because your a bandwagon Keanu hater.
Exactly ! Keanu CAN act ! " Speed " , The " Bill and Ted " Films and " Devil`s Advocate " show that ! He JUST gets typecast as Stoic Characters ! And people saying he just " plays himself " IN EVERY FILM ARE FULL OF *beep* ! Anyone who`s EVER seen An Interview with Keanu knows he IS NOT Stoic , he IS A Normal , Laidback , Intelligent Dude !
shareEXACTLY MY POINT, BobFlame! I HATE it when people typecast Keanu as being 'stoic' or 'robotic', and saying he can't act when it's clear he CAN ACT; this movie being one of the films as evidence. In his interviews, he's VERY laid back, intelligent, and cool. Most people who say these awful things about him are ignorant and full of it.

Reeves is a great actor, he was really in character the whole movie and made it more real and convincing.
