Let's be honest. Is there only an uproar over Zara's death because she
Is female? Would anyone have batted an eye if it were another male character that was killed?

shareIt's a wonder that it took this long to kill a female character in the franchise, actually.
shareI think people are viewing it as a "hatred of women" thing, but I would argue that if anything it's more of a "fragile masculinity" perspective. Ie they had this idea for a cool death sequence, but they didn't want to give it to a man, because having a man scream and flail that much would get the death made fun of, and defeating the point of it being terrifying
shareThere wasn't any "uproar" over Zara's death. But there was bewilderment, as such a drawn-out death scene is usually reserved for someone who has earned it in some way, and she hadn't. Had the character been male instead, the reaction would have been the same.
shareThere are some people who view the "final girl" trope in horror films as feminist positive because it shows a woman standing up for herself as the hero. Then there are those who say it glorifies violence against women and it's bad lol
shareI'll be honest. I didn't think twice about her dying. Just another body to add to the count in the movie. I didn't even remember that the character had a name, she was just Claire's assistant, until I read it here.
shareI thought her death was pretty cool, right up there with the poor sap in The LOST WORLD who was ripped in 2 by 2 T-Rex's playing tug of war with him in that 1 scene
shareNo, I don't think it has anything to do with her being female.
Some movie deaths tend to be more disturbing than others (eg Duffy in Robocop 2), especially if it happens to an innocent character in a family film.
It was just bad writing. Zara's ott death scene should've been reserved for a villainous character, like Dieter in The Lost World.
I don't mind movie violence but I despise gratuitous violence and that's what Zara's death scene is and why so many were effected by it.
I think it had more to do with the fact that her death was unnecessary and was only put in the script for shock value. I mean, she's barely in the movie at all, was a completely innocent bystander, and yet she's given a sudden and epic death worthy of a tragic hero or bad guy out of nowhere.
Plus, I thought the murderous pterodactyls attacking the people in the park (not just Zara) was incredibly stupid. Usually when flying creatures like that are set loose, they would naturally just scatter into the jungle. But they behaved as if someone were telepathically directing them all to attack the people at the park, which makes no sense at all, even for a Jurassic Park film. Most animals, even prehistoric ones brought to life, wouldn't behave in such a coordinated way towards a specific target of creatures like that. Not to mention, even at their size, the pterodactyls wouldn't have had the strength to lift someone as big as an adult human, never mind throwing them into the Mososaur tank.
