I never realized there was another version of this

Yeah back in 1974 there was a Canadian made for TV adaptation of the First Blood novel. I just recently saw it for the first time and it follows the novel a lot more closely except they changed Rambo's name to Ronbo and Trautman wasn't in it but other than that it was pretty much the same thing as the novel. I'm not sure if that makes it better but it's interesting to say the least.

What's it called?

reply

I caught it after the opening credits had rolled but I think it was something like The Hunt For Justice or something.

reply

Can't find anything about any other Rambo movie - Bollywood excluded.

reply

It seemed pretty low budget so it probably has faded into obscurity but I promise you it exists.

reply

Just what are you saying? This was the 1st movie of the franchise. There was never a prequel. The sequel to this came out in 85 where he goes back to Vietnam

reply

The 1982 film was kind of like a reboot. Think of it this way, Michael Keaton Batman wasn’t connected to Adam West Batman, much like the ‘74 film isn’t connected to the ‘82 film. Or how in 2014 they made another version of Robocop and it was in no way connected to the 1987 Robocop.

Adam West IS Batman!!!

reply

Are you saying that both Batman and Robocop were in this 1974 version of First Blood?

reply

No:

1974 First Blood movie: 1982 First Blood movie as 1987 Robocop movie: 2014 Robocop movie

reply

Surely Robin was in it though right? I keed. BTW I believe you regarding the film because I seem to remember something about it, but I used to do drugs so...

What a dipshit...

On IMDb the Authors credits (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0606251/?ref_=ttfc_fc_wr1) start with First Blood 1982. Which doesn't prove there was not an earlier version - I've found gaps in IMDb before for older productions - but does make it hard to find.

reply

Yeah again this was a made for TV movie in Canada, I doubt IMDB has picked up on it. It was incredibly low budget but it was interesting to see someone other than Stallone portray this character.

reply

The earliest credit for the book author, David Morrell, is 1982 (First Blood).

reply

That doesn’t mean the movie doesn’t exist. I saw it on Pluto TV it was on the 70’s retro channel.

reply

If this is the truth, then for the good of mankind it must be found.

reply

The thing is so low budget it sank into obscurity a long time ago, I just happened to catch it on Pluto TV. I wouldn't say it was as good as the Stallone version but definitely more faithful to the source material.

reply

Who were the main actors/actresses in this?? Certainly that would help locating the title??

reply

Below, is all I could find on a Canadian Rambo. I have to admit that it's an amazing bit of history.

reply

The Wikipedia article for the novel mentions no other adaptations besides the Stallone film.

If another version was made it would appear to have been based on the story but not an official adaptation.

reply

Just because it doesn't mention it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I swear I saw it.
