How in the world do they speak English?!
A galaxy far, far away and most people speak...20th Century English dialect, full with slang and American accents?! Why not French? Or Lebanese? Speaking English seems highly, impossibly unlikely.

shareIt's just for our benefit as the viewing audience and it was a mix of American and British production work, and you must have seen the English-speaking version.
You can probably change to different languages on the DVD / Blu-Ray if you wish.
At least they changed the English text that was on the tractor beam controls!
(It would be impossible for any type of biological being from a galaxy far away to speak ANY Earth-like language.)
shareWell they looked and acted exactly like humans so I assume their insides were the same too.
shareYou know you are an idiot....right?
shareHow do you know that they would not speak English? Don't forget this story takes place "A Long time ago in a galaxy far far away". Maybe they are our forebearers.
sharethey speak "basic", which like english is a universal language. it would actually make sense in a diverse universe to have a single secondary language to allow communication among 20 million species.
shareThere are other alien languages spoken in Star Wars. Greedo, Jabba the hut, Chewbacca, R2D2 etc.
Do you really want to watch an entire movie where everyone is speaking made up language? Because I don’t. I’m willing to suspend my disbelief in order to get something that I understand
I found it annoying that Chewbacca and the droids languages was not subtitled
shareBecause Americans made the movie.
sharemaybe needed more fucking DEI? is that the point? DEI should DIE
shareBecause English is the only language in the Universe, duh!
shareThey borrowed the universal translator from Starfleet.
