Why people like this movie?

Seriously , why everyone says this is a masterpiece? i honestly watched it twice to make sure i didn't miss anything , but i still fail to understand why is this movie regarded as one of the best in film making , i've got bored to death , it felt like watching a sunday mass on screen.

Did you not find Michael Corleone's character arc interesting—perhaps even Shakespearian in scope? What about authenticity? The acting and directing. The production design and cinematography.

Nothing is new nowadays, really, but in 1972... wow, what an impressive display of Italian-American (or more accurately, Sicilian) culture. Were you even alive in the 20th Century? It's not exactly made for the TikTok generation.

Don't feed the trolls. Just look at their post history and you'll understand.

reply

Stick to mindless Michael Bay movies. Not everyone in this world is smart. You fall into that 80%

reply

Michael Bay makes great movies, too, except the Transformers lot. But that's probably for the kids.

The Rock
Armageddon
Pearl Harbor
Bad Boys
The Island
13 Hours: Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

But he's more Saturday Night double feature, while The Godfather Saga is for Sunday.

You think everyone who doesn't like this movie is shallow? Isn't that a bit... shallow of you?

reply

Why would you watch a movie twice if it was boring you to death?

reply

It’s 1 and 2 together- that make it the great one. Did you read the book?

So what is your idea of a masterpiece?

reply

How about the 10 movies in the Fast and Furious franchise. I am including Hobbs and Shaw

reply

Pretty sure this is a troll post but I wouldn't call it overrated but it does get a lot of unbridled worship.

It is a very good movie but it's showing some age right now. I don't like it as much as I used too.

reply

There are meds for your mental stuntedness.

reply

It's not that great. I almost didn't make it past the opening wedding scene. I thought it was never gonna end.

reply

No patience! And it even ended with an explosion! That's probably what kept you watching.

reply

The moronic original post says a lot more about the poster than about The Godfather. He complains he can't understand why it's considered a masterpiece, but it wouldn't occur to him to read any film criticism on it. He might start with the renowned Pauline Kale, who adored this film.

reply

That's a fools errand.

Why would you like and appreciate a movie just because a 'critic' tells you to?

I believe in watching a movie and coming to your own conclusions. Letting critics tell you what movies to like is silly. Does a critic telling you that xyz editing technique was ahead of the curve circa 1972 or that the cinematography was expertly lit really make the movie any better? When a critic tells you Marlon Brando gave a good acting performance, does the performance suddenly become superior than it was prior to you hearing that appraisal?

You're just letting outside factors determine the movies value. Do your own thing.

If you watch a movie and think it's shit then stick to it. Don't let the 'good critic reviews' force you into liking it.

reply

Of course! Why would you want to educate yourself as to what make good art? Just stick with your ignorant opinions.

reply

Edgy opinion seems to be now that naked boobs make any movie instantly better...

reply

If you need to be told something is good to 'realize' it is good... then maybe it's not good?

Become a free thinker. Form your own opinion on a subjective matter. Whether you like a movie or not is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, also insulting someones intelligence for not liking a movie whilst basically admitting you needed to read up on why it was good doesn't make you look bright yourself. That's a sheepish thing to do.

Free thinkers > people that need to be told what to like.

reply

Educating oneself with the writings of critics is not the same as giving up independent thinking. You can also learn as a movie watcher, it's called growing up. It's unlikely that you like all the same movies as you did when you were a child. Rebelling against authority figures is natural at a certain age, but as an art form, film has much more to offer than naked women and tits...

reply

There's a difference between being told something is good and understanding why it's good - or not. That understanding comes with knowledge. One way to acquire that knowledge is to read critics - film, theatre, literary. You may or may not agree with them (I agree with Kael about The Godfather), but to assume that people who cite respected critics are simply parroting their opinions is a baseless assumption. That doesn't make you look too bright yourself.
