Only One Time In 188 yrs Has A Sitting Vice President Been Elected

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/kamala-harris-election-would-defy-history-only-1-sitting-vice-president-has-been-elected-president-in-188-years

That was George H.W. Bush.

reply

Gore won the popular vote.

reply

Yet that is not how our Constitution framers set it up. They had the foresight to know how to keep densely populated/media heavy urban areas from exclusively ruling the rest of our country, who may have differing interests. They foresaw how to keep it fair without knowing what the future would hold.

reply

All I said was that he won the popular vote.

Which is a fact.

reply

Yes, it is a fact that has absolutely no relevance in the United States Presidential election.

reply

Just because it is not the deciding factor, doesn't mean it's not worth discussing.

Good luck trying to get anyone else to have a conversation with you.

reply

So what?

reply

They had the foresight to know how to keep densely populated/media heavy urban areas from exclusively ruling the rest of our country, who may have differing interests.

That's not the purpose of the Electoral College. There were no densely populated urban areas when the Constitution was written. The purpose of the Electoral College is to share power with the states and give each state influence on who's elected President. Remember the U.S. is a federal republic and began as a union of 13 independent states.

reply

Perhaps you should read the link prior to sharing your expertise in United States government.

reply

I don't need a link. I know history.

reply

Didn't they finally figure out that Gore actually won once all them Florida ballots were audited but by then Bush was long since sworn in and they said screw it? They mentioned it every day on the Daily Show for 8 years straight.

reply

The Daily Show is a comedy show on Comedy Central. Bu if what you said is aculeate, you should be able to provide credible links.

reply

The claim was elected not popular vote. Why are you interfering with the topic at hand?

reply

Moron says what?

reply

Get emotional...

reply

fuck you

reply

An emotional poster, how cute.

reply

LOL!

TRUMP WON!

reply

Thank God for the Electoral College. The E.C. is the only thing that keeps our entire country from being run by New York City and coastal California.

reply

LOL!

reply

Then why have the Democrats won every time they have?

reply

By Fraud

reply

You can complain about Al Gore in 2000 and Republicans will say the election was stolen in 2020. I say that makes it even.

reply

I voted for Bush, dumb ass

reply

Why are you so emotional?

reply

why are you a retard?

reply

I'm sure you are.

reply

good one, faggot

reply

Not just that. He also would have won Florida had the votes been counted correctly.

I also believe Biden would have won in 2016 had he run.

As a past trend this one is kind of ridiculous.

reply

Theres an obsession with identity politics, clinton already lost 8 years ago, would these people allow another woman to lose? which goes against this narrative of empowering women and how beautiful it would be have a woman president?

mmmm, identity politics plus hatred of trump equals dead people voting and ballots in the trash...

the fix is in.

reply

people fall for a charsmatic leaders Frank Herbert(executed brillantly by Denis Villeneuve) and George Lucas showed that with Paul Atreides and Emperor Palpatine as proxies democracies are given away yeah you are correct.

reply

why i choose to remain a third party voter.

reply

Here is a well written piece from Boston University concerning third party candidates and their chance to bring about any change.

https://www.bu.edu/articles/2024/is-voting-third-party-a-wasted-vote/

reply

That has absolutely no relevance to the OP.

reply

Yet it has abundant relevance for the poster to whom I was replying. (it was not you) Since I am the OP, I shall discern what is, and is not relevant. Your post is irrelevant.

reply

fuck you

reply

People like you are only basement-dwelling cowards. You'd never say that to anyone face to face because you know you'd have the shit beat out of you.

reply

Wrong again, faggot

reply

People like nukedude either assume they can beat the shit out of anyone, which they most definitely cannot, or they're just playing tough guy on the internet because they know they're safe.

reply

LOL...you apparently failed basic comprehension in school...well, if you even attended. I never said that I'd beat the shit out of him...I said that if he said "fuck you" to someone right in front of him, he'd get the shit beat out of him. He said it to DonenWoods13. I don't know who he or she is, but my bet is that he or she could take the Star Wars fanboi on with one hand tied behind him. We're done here.

reply

wrong again, faggot

reply

It's already rigged and in the bag for her. No party would be dumb enough to run a nitwit like her otherwise.

reply

You mean the GOP would never be dumb enough to run a deranged felon like Trump? It is like the GOP is trying to throw the election to the democrats.

reply

LBJ might have, if he hadn't gotten impatient and...you know.

reply

He certainly knew how to get things done.

reply

She hasn't been elected yet, and she never will be.

reply

LOL!

reply

LOL!

reply

In a sane, intelligent world overseen by a loving God she never would be. Unfortunately, we live in a world of useful idiots who will vote for her and cheat for her, and God doesn't seem to care.

reply

That's because God doesn't exist.

reply

I will pray for you tonight at mass and you can't stop me, LOL -Yeah! God will know who you are.

reply

Did you change your mind in between?

reply

^ This. I have faith that He will get us through with minimal unrest.

reply

LOL!

reply

There have been zero times when a convicted felon has been elected president.

reply

True indeed. Yet it seems to have gained him legions of Black and Hispanic voters who have long felt persecuted and disenfranchised by the justice system. We shall see.

reply

Not those from Puerto Rico, lol.

reply

I do not like to hear any ethnicity slurred. My family immigrated from the former Bohemia and were treated most unkindly. Think "Gypsies, tramps and thieves." They/we later became lawyers, judges, and other PHDs.

That said, the remark was made by an insult comic that no one I know has ever heard of before.

reply

There have been zero times when a convicted felon has been elected president.

I was going to sit this election out because I don't like Trump's stance on Ukraine and Harris is a stooge, but when the left went all in to convict Trump on garbage charges (charges no one would ever be prosecuted for without political motivation) just to get him labelled as "convicted", I decided to vote for him and I did.

Now that he's elected, I wonder what dumpsters they're face down in looking for something to use to impeach Trump again.

As someone recently said: "Jesus was also convicted".

reply

Jesus didn't use his authority to get out of the charges against him.

reply

Non sequitur

reply

"Jesus was also elected" was a non-sequitor

reply

LOL!

reply

One has to wonder how the world would've been if H.W would've not said "Read My Lips: No New Taxes" and lost the election because of it??

reply

Pity, those six words.
"Spoken by Bush during his 1988 run for the presidency, the quote helped Bush defeat Michael Dukakis, became a cornerstone of his Saturday Night Live persona (embodied by Dana Carvey) and also caught him in a political snare. At a time of major budget deficits and spending needs, Bush was — as many had predicted — unable to get by with cuts alone. Before his first year in office was complete, he had signed into law a “stealth budget” that, while leaving the income tax alone, raised various fees and levies. In 1990, David Letterman was joking that Bush’s catchphrase should be updated to “Read my lips: I was lying”; sure enough, it was clear that the original promise had to go."

The public-at-large mostly fail to understand the cyclical nature of economics. The US had enjoyed 7 years of feast, then came the famine. And of course, the msm never misses a chance to destroy.

reply

My strongly Republican father-in-law, refused to vote for GHWB in 1992 because he broke that promise. He voted for Ross Perot, instead.

reply

and thats why Clinton won. some people aint verry smert.
