Do you only get canceled if you're a straight white guy

WB axed johnny depp, a much bigger star than Miller or Heard, but seem to have no issues with the actions of these 2 other stars who aren't straight white men. What's the variable if not that?

reply

His career is clearly finished.

reply

Do you think they'll kill his character in the flash? There are multiple flash in the comics, so they could keep going.

reply

As far as I know he is straight? The child he's accused of grooming is female, and he had a long term girlfriend?

reply

He has proclaimed himself "queer" and then decided on Bi I think. Now it looks like he's into kids. So maybe he's a "screw anything that moves"?

reply

This is the key. Once you've jumped on to that bandwagon it's like having an invisibility cloak. He'll be protected.

reply

He's trysexual. He'll try anything.

reply

LOL

reply

I think the issue is that they had already finished filming a movie in which he was the main character. It’s too late to replace him. I doubt he will be hired for any future movies. I’m quite sure Flash will have another actor the next time he appears, one way or another.

Keep in mind, Kevin Spacey is a homosexual man who was cut from a movie shortly after his allegations came to light and another actor replaced him. That was easier to do as he wasn’t the main character.

reply

But Kevin only came out after the allegations came out. I'm guessing he thought it would help, because it seems it does.

reply

The allegations came first, yes, but Spacey getting fired came after that.

reply

I might be wrong, but I thought Fantastic Beasts 3 was done, and they still replaced johnny.

reply

It might've been. I never saw the movies but as I understand it, he was the villain. If he only had maybe 20 minutes of screentime or something, it should be easy to reshoot. Same goes for Spacey. He had a small part which made it easier to recast and reshoot. Ezra is the main character in Flash and it's likely there are few scenes that don't involve him, meaning they would basically have to almost completely reshoot the entire movie. As this is a multi-million dollar blockbuster, that's not gonna be an easy task.

I don't support Ezra but WB is in kind of a bind here. The DC movies don't normally do very well to begin with and they don't want to lose more money. Chances are, WB will quietly release a trailer that mostly promotes Keaton's return as Batman, has a lot of SFX shots of Flash running without seeing Ezra's face too much, and maybe hint at some sort of DCEU reboot then hope for a profit.

EDIT: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/johnny-depp-forced-quit-fantastic-162911238.html According to this article, it looks like the Fantastic Beasts movie hadn't begun filming yet when Depp got fired.

reply

The villain had a ton of screen time. Depp is probably lucky to have been pulled. It was terrible.

reply

That's exactly what WB will do. They'll showcase the Batman, Flash running, and zero closeups of Ezra's face in the promotions and hope for the best. His face won't be on the poster.

It's what they did with Armie Hammer in Death on the Nile.

reply

They hadn't finished filming. They had started filming, but they had not finished.

reply

I did a little looking. Sounds like he actually shot very little.

reply

You mean like Bill Cosby? I'd say the rather Depp friendly media coverage & the outcome of the defamation trial working in his favor seems to prove the opposite of the mythical "poor downtrodden white male" theory that the Alt-Reich crowd are so fond of propagating. As far as Deep getting "fired" from the Pirates & FB franchises, it probably had more to do with him getting too old & too expensive.

reply

They cut him from fantastic Beasts 3 after it was done filming.

reply

and your point being?

reply

My point is they don't seem to do that to anyone but straight whites. It's literally what we've been talking about.

reply

So you just ignored my point reiterate your OP logic. Like I said they likely felt Depp was getting too old & too expensive than what he was worth & the Heard controversy was a convenient excuse. The idea that white males are being marginalized & losing out on parts in Hollyweird is laughable & as i said i said, echoes the delusional Alt-Reich victim fantasy that an industry dominated by white males at every level is somehow oppressing white males.

reply

And you're ignoring the fact that I've never mentioned pirates, only fantastic beasts, which he'd already started.

reply

I mentioned Fantastic Beasts as well... My mentioning Pirates "in addition to" Fantastic Beasts was to illustrate a shared point that they were likely looking to drop him anyway for being too old & too expensive. The idea of the white male dominated industry discriminating against white males is contradictory, nonsense.

reply

My bad, I missed the FB, but it is there. The NFL is African American dominated, yet they cry discrimination constantly regarding coaching and quarterback positions. Is that contradictory?

reply

"the delusional Alt-Reich victim fantasy that an industry dominated by white males at every level is somehow oppressing white males"

Your erroneous, assertion that black American NFL players "cry discrimination constantly" is neither here nor there as the clear difference is that NFL players represent 70% of the selectively high paid employees. Despite being the bulk of the talent there has never been a black owner. They aren't the movers and shakers making the real, long-term profits. The higher you go in the industry it quickly becomes overwhelmingly white male dominated so no, the idea of black players pointing out the disparity at higher levels is not contradictory.

reply

I didn't mention owners.

reply

You seem to be the delusional one if you think that minorities arent given special treatment over white males.White characters are replaced by black characters all the time.Black comedians have a much better chance of getting a netflix special than a white man.Get out of your echo chamber once in a while.

reply

Yet the only get place you're going to find agreement for such nonsensical white supremacist rhetoric is anonymously within the confines of Alt-Reich echo chambers of the internet. The irony is staggering

reply

Is that what they say in your echo chambers. What i said is an observational fact. You can be in denial about it all you want and keep throwing around your cringey buzz terms like alt-reich like a douche.

reply

And, Bill Cosby hasn't had a career in a long time. Time canceled him.

reply

Bill Cosby had a couple of projects that were explicitly cancelled in the wake of the accusations a few years back.

reply

He might have done advertising or something, but based on the last 20 years, he wasn't going to be in anything most people would see.

reply

Cosby was still hailed as a popular and beloved comedian with reruns of the Cosby Show all over the place. That all went away.

reply

Youre comparing the cosby case to depp?Youre a fool.

reply

Rather a lot of women have been cancelled, from reasons ranging to public displays of racism, to being married to Johnny Depp.

And while I'm no fan of "cancelling", from any group, I have to admit it's hilarious to watch all the white straight men quake in their boots at the thought of it! Could this be the only thing that will ever get them to behave themselves???

reply

Douchebagsayswhat?

reply

Kevin Spacey needs to come back

reply

As far as the public knew, he was a straight white man when he got in trouble. Evidently, gay after the fact doesn't count.

reply

Interesting that he thought coming out might stop the cancellation, isn't it?
