Are people ignoring that his mologue was something the producers of the show approved?

I keep hearing how Ricky "roasted" Hollywood and such but it sounds more like people think that Ricky was given an open mic to say whatever he wanted when the reality is that these things are per-approved by the show producers. If anything this monologue was in a way the producers telling the celebrities in attendance to keep it down with the political preaching because this has had a negative impact in the shows's ratings.

I think you nailed it ...I didn't watch, did the celebs heed the message?

reply

Some still went ahead and did it anyway.

Gervais was using hand-held note cards instead of the prompter. He may not have submitted the material he actually ended up doing to the producers beforehand. It was a delight to hear someone who is fairly prominent in the entertainment field calling out the hypocrisy, ignorance, and smugness of the woke Hollywood establishment. The self-important looks of disapproval on Hanks's pompous face were priceless. The more Gervais offends this crowd of bloated know-nothings, the better.

He kicked total axx

Tom Hank's reputation as this cool, laid back, regular dude is bullshit. He is a pompous, woke, Hollywood elitist. The self-important looks of disapproval on his face made me sick.

reply

I enjoyed his discomfort immensely. He's one of the greatest actors of our generation, but I'm pretty sure his bathroom has no spray...

reply

Bathroom has no spray?

reply

I think he is implying that Tom Hanks thinks his shit doesn´t stink.

reply

It doesnt.
Multiple Oscars.
Elite rich and famous.

No one could possibly doubt his talent, or that he's elite rich and certainly famous.

Shit still stinks, and he is blissfully unaware of that fact.

reply

Why would you be aware of the fact when your shit is miles better than anyone else?

reply

You know, I agree with you but my wife remains unconvinced..

He had handheld notes. I do not think the HFPA would have approved the things he said. But as he mentioned quite a few times, it is his last time hosting and he really didn't care. He spoke his mind and he was right in everything he said. It's something that everybody thinks but no one in the industry says out loud. I love Gervais' humor and his opennesses. We need more people like him in Hollywood.

reply

Right. It never ceases to amaze that people believe everything on television is real. You can take reaction b-rolls and show them when you want to create any story you want, to make it appear that someone laughed at themselves or was upset, when really they were laughing at someone else or were upset because their drink got warm. In editing you can make anyone a villain or hero.

"so come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your god and then f off."

I loved it!

Speaking Truth to Putzes..

reply

Perfectly spoken!

reply

Judging by reactions, it certainly was not approved.

reply

Many in the audience did not approve, for sure.

reply

I just stated something similar on a facebook post.

I find it kinda odd that he was allowed to rip into them like that by the producers, of all people. Some of the stuff he said doesn't sound like something anyone in Tinseltown would approve of, and yet it was what everyone in the real world was thinking when looking at shallow, stupid Hollywood.
