We can only assume that the part of the men dominated fan base that for some reason will only watch other men and do not want to see females is a minority.
Not true. There have been some great films out there with female lead characters. I loved A Long Kiss Good Night, Aliens, Resident Evil, Underworld, and several others.
Also, the original Star Wars trilogy had Princess Leia. Trek had Uhura and many others. The Matrix had Trinity. Not leads, but still integral characters men loved.
Difference is, they weren’t films about BEING female like films are today with sledgehammer messages about sexism.
The older films also had female characters fighting alongside male characters rather than spending time showing how the male characters were inferior to women.
The female characters also fought hardships and challenges in order to win in the end rather than being a Mary Sue who is both perfect right off and wins with little effort.
Female characters are great. Woke female characters aren’t.

Funny how men never had to do that. Action heroes of the 80s would beat up a dozen men without breaking a sweat and you lapped it up.
Now their progress and realism is ultra micro tracked evaluated and criticised just so you can conclude "HA! A Mary Sue!!"

Aggression, violence and assertiveness are much more commonly male than female characteristics. Men are also larger and stronger, and are 99%+ of the people who fight in wars. To put a female character in Rambo's role, for example, would require a hell of a lot more development. Of course Rambo doesn't really exist, but grizzled, mentally disturbed, muscular male Vietnam vets did, so it isn't a huge leap. After just a scene or two, we already know who John Rambo is because we understand the cultural associations and our assumptions about him are natural. A female version simply didn't and doesn't exist. She is intrinsically less plausible and familiar and so her skills of beating up and killing larger trained men would have to be earned in a way that Rambo's wouldn't. It's the same story with all the 80s action heroes.
There's also the issue of today's female characters only being interesting when they adopt male characteristics, behaviour and roles. In many ways they aren't women at all, but surrogate men, and obnoxious, unlikeable ones at that. With a lot of today's female "tough guys", if the characters were made male, they would be deemed "toxic" by the same women who laud the female versions of the characters.
