Just another 78 year old man complaining about movies these days.

bingo

reply

The "movies these days" are nowhere near as good as they were in the good old days.

The great actor Brian Cox is right.

reply

You sound old and out of touch. Blinded by nostalgia.

Movies are as good as ever, some new releases are better than the classics of previous years whilst others are worthless, it has always been this way.

reply

"...it has always been this way."

Really? Was it this way when they made silent films?

"Movies are as good as ever..."

CGI? Comic book films? What is better?

The "movies these days" are nowhere near as good as they were in the good old days.

Brian is correct.

reply

Comic book films are no lesser than light hearted fluff like the original Star Wars trilogy, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters and all the cheesy action movies and John Hughes comedies of the 80s.

"...cheesy action movies...of the 80s."

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and some others made great action films in the 80's and 90's. Brian Cox was in Braveheart. When men were men.

Many of the greatest films were made between 1970 and 2000.

reply

Schwarzenegger can't act for shit. Without the steroids he'd be nothing. Willis is no better than Statham.

When men were men? Oh you're one of those nostalgic types who misses the 'good old days'. Yeah back when the gays, women and non-whites knew their place huh?

Many of the greatest films were made between 2000-present. If you don't enjoy that many movies from the past 24 years you're well and truly finished old man. Sheesh. If only you could hop in the DeLorean and go back to your precious 80s... maybe you could hook up with some of those real men you're lusting after.

reply

"Many of the greatest films were made between 2000-present."

If you are woke. How many movies made between 2000-present were not woke? Everything woke turns to sh#t.

The "movies these days" are nowhere near as good as they were in the good old days.

Brian is right.

reply

And there it is of course you're one of those alt-right nerds who hates 'woke' stuff.

I'm not saying everyone who complains about 'woke' media is a racist, sexist, homophobic asshole... but most of them are.

Maybe you can take your DeLorean to the 1950s instead. Back when the colored people had their own schools and water fountains. The good old days.

reply

"And there it is of course you're one of those alt-right nerds who hates 'woke' stuff.

Woke is garbage. Pure and simple.

Films were more manly in the the 20th Century. That was cinema!

I'm not saying every male who likes 'woke' media/movies is a soyboy. A low-T, beta, candy ass girlyman... but most of them are.

There have been some good movies made this century. Martin Scorcese films are an example. Most have been, however, woke pieces of excrement.

Mr. Scorcese explains the deterioration of cinema in the 21st Century-

Everything woke turns to sh#t.

Brian was in Braveheart.

reply

Nah, standards have dropped significantly since Covid.

reply

Nostalgia for what? Lol.

Or we're just adults who are tired of seeing Marvel milk the same old same old superhero theme for money and we want to see something new and different.

What are you, 10 years old?

reply

I like Brian Cox as an actor, but I've seen him in interviews giving his opinions on other actors and movies in general and he does come across as a bitter old man.

Anyway, he was in X2.

reply

He also played Hannibal Lecter in the movie "MANHUNTER"

reply

X2 was made when comic book movies were actually good and made sense (instead of just money).

reply

I'm a big fan of the original X-Men trilogy, they're good but many of the more recent comic book releases are good too.

How many of them are you actually watching? Have you seen all the following movies or have you seen a small handful and are generalizing? There is a lot of them after all, they're not all bad and I find it hard to believe someone could be watching all these and not really enjoying at least a few of them.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Suicide Squad (2021)
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Eternals (2021)
Black Widow (2021)
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
The Batman (2022)

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2023)
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
The Flash (2023)
The Marvels (2023)
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
Madame Web (2024)
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)

reply

I've seen a few cartoon movies (on television for free) and most of them have been lately so bad or indifferent, that I won't systematically waste my time on them anymore. They just don't give anything to me. If there's something that interests me for some reason, then I'll give it a chance. Like The Batman (2022). I wasn't initially interested in it, but after I read some comments (doesn't need to be positive comment to pique my interest) over here, I gave it a chance and it turned out to be quite good. CGI has turned live action movies into cartoons when it comes to pacing (and laws of physics) and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw The Batman, and it reminded me more of spaghetti westerns.

Just a couple of days ago there was Venom: Let there be carnage on tv. I decided to check it out even though I didn't care for the first movie. I watched maybe half an hour and turned it off.

reply

X2 is a good movie. I can't speak for Deadpool & Wolverine.

reply

Certainly is. I've seen 2 good American movies in the past 5 years. 3 or 4 from the UK. And the movies I watch on movie night which I have once a week are rarely foreign but that's gonna change I think. Hollywood can suck my ass.

reply

When you find yourself not enjoying any new movies, songs, or whatever, it's a sign you're getting old and out of touch. Sorry.

Saying that the USA & UK together only manage to produce one good movie a year is hilarious by the way.

reply

Could you list a few new movies that you think are good so that we can assess how well you are doing?

reply

I don't care for modern horror. You didn't fill the list with Marvel crap.

reply

No.

reply

Sounds like you have poor taste. Try raising your standards.

reply

You're right dude I should be a bitter old codger who thinks only one good movie gets released each year.

reply

He has the brains to see it and the balls to say it, dude’s absolutely right.

The Hollywood golden age was the 60s to the 80s. This era produced legendary film makers such as Lucas, Coppola, Spielberg, Carpenter, De Palma, Scorsese, Stone etc. Nothing compares to this era in terms of iconic, enduring films, no matter what people say.

The 1990s was the start of the decline, namely with the emergence of CGI and increased quotas, but there were still great films being produced well into this century, just not as many as there once was, nor as good as the 60s-80s era.

With the 2020s, they're trying to remove white men from many key starring, directing and screenwriting roles in the name of diversity, and we will see a dark age if that becomes the norm. The cancellation of The Acolyte is a glimmer of hope that good storytelling will prevail over woke agendas ruining film and tv.

reply

He's spitting nothing but truth in that article...

reply

“Television is the new cinema” a pretty dated argument as well. People have been saying that since the Sopranos
