Are YOU now or have you ever been a fan of Mickey Mouse (and co)?

The character, that is.

Personally, no.

This isn't gonna be a rant post. I do not dislike Disney (the company) as a whole, nor do I love them.

I've just never found the character appealing. Even as a kid. Never found him funny. Just annoying.

And as for his "friends", I liked Donald Duck when I was a kid. The Goofy movie was entertaining. As least to kid me. Haven't seen it since.

What about y'all?

IT WOULD SEEM YOU AND I ARE IN AGREEMENT ON OL MICKEY....I NEVER HAD ANY AFFINITY FOR HIM....I DID APPRECIATE DONALD DUCK THOUGH.

MY DAUGHTER WHO IS NOW 17 LOVED MICKEY AND HIS FRIENDS AS A KID THOUGH....THEY HAD THAT MICKEY'S CLUBHOUSE SHOW....CGI VERSION OF THE CHARACTERS.

Not a fan although I like some classic Disney cartoons I don't watch them. Sleeping Beauty being a favorite artistically and 101 Dalmatians for its story. Mickey WAS annoying and characterless. The objects around him were more animated than he was.
I myself prefer Warne Bros. Looney Tunes and their obnoxious brew.

I love Disney World and many Disney movies, but Mickey Mouse doesn't really do much of anything for me. At least he's not Mickey Cockroach, though.

reply

No. Mickey Mouse is boring. Has anyone genuinely been a Mickey Mouse 'fan' since, I dunno, World War II?

Even as a kid, I was never fond of the 'classic' Disney characters. Always vastly preferred the anarchy of Looney Tunes. Give me Daffy Duck over Donald Duck any old day.

In fact, I even preferred the cheap, semi-animated Hanna-Barbera cartoons to Disney. And crap like Dogtanian and Cities of Gold. I never liked Disney. In fact, I have strong memories of getting to that age where you start working out that the stuff you're watching on TV is actually made by people... and starting to link the name 'Disney' to things I wasn't that keen on.

And then for all sorts of reasons, I developed a deep dislike of the Walt Disney Company as a teenager. And that sentiment has never really left me.

A lot of the Pixar stuff is good though. Credit where it's due.

I join with some posters who prefer the Looney Tunes characters! They were the funniest characters ever. I even identify with Tweety Bird. I was always the littlest kid and so innocent looking, but with a very evil mind who knew how to get revenge๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Interesting coincidence though, another thread just asked about jewelry and I got to thinking about my Mickey Mouse watch which broke a number of years ago. I have been wanting to replace it. Mickey may have not been my favorite cartoon character but I love his jewelry.

Haven't kept up with Pixarbin a lil while but they've made some excellent stuff.

Yes. I've actually worked with & met actual adults who liked Mickey. Wearing merch, doing the voice, all that jazz..

No. Been a while since I've seen one too. They appear to have gone down the endless sequels route, which is a shame. Because they've made some great films.

Fair enough. I just always think of Mickey Mouse as being terribly old-fashioned. But that's largely because I only really know the character from very early cartoons and, of course, from being the symbol of the company. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure I know what Mickey Mouse's character even is.

You know. Donald Duck: futile rage. What's Mickey's thing? I don't know.

So that's probably my ignorance. I take back the 'World War II' thing.

reply

No. His voice bothers me.

reply

Same! Genuinely finding it grating my soul. Slight exaggeration.

But you get it. Cannot tell ya why. It just
disturbs me deeply.

I liked Mickey but, like some of the others here, I was more of a Looney Toons kid (especially Bugs Bunny and the post-World War II cartoons). I do remember watching re-runs of "The Mickey Mouse Club" when I was a kid (And, like a lot of young boys, fell madly in love with Annette Funicello...RIP ๐Ÿ˜ฅ).

I don't mind Mickey and his friends, but I'm not a super fan. I'm more of a casual one. It's fun watching him go on adventures, or have cute little romantic stories with Minnie, but I was never totally nuts about him.

I always found Donald Duck both entertaining and annoying at times. Goofy's a nice character, but he's a walking disaster area. Only reasons he's still alive is because he's a cartoon character, and possesses Pure Dumb Luck. Minnie's a sweetheart and a ray of sunshine. Daisy is one of the more surprising characters, because while it's adorable seeing her and Donald together, she's scary on the rare occasion when she gets mad.

I'm playing a game right now called "Disney Dreamlight Valley," and I rarely pick Mickey or his friends as frequent companions to follow me around on my adventures. I don't mind talking to him, or changing his outfit (depending on the holiday) but sadly, his dialogue is as limited as the other villagers.

I think Donald is funny in moderation. That voice gets old & annoying fast imo.

Iโ€™ve always liked Mickey but I prefer Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes.
