Which Celebrity death shocked (and affected) you the most????
There have been quite a few. But probably, because one was such a huge fan, plus hoping for a Beatles reunion....
John Lennon

John Lennon
Michael Jackson.
But I never liked him and thought he was a shitty superstar.
However, I remember him dying made my car shake on my way to work.
One of the earliest shocking celebrity deaths for me was Anissa Jones. She played Buffy on Family Affair and was only 18 years old when she died of a drug overdose. I was getting ready for school and I heard it on the radio.
It was one of those first time shocks when you realize that young people can die suddenly too.
I thought he was a shitty superstar too. Never really got it, he was all hype and expensive music videos. I remember when I heard though it was a shock as I think at the time what he was doing with medication wasn't too well known.
shareWhen John Wayne died the news interrupted the regular broadcast to announce it. I don't remember any other time that happened. IIRC it was just a solid color screen with a text crawl.
shareQueen Elizabeth she was just always there and then she wasn't.
Robin Williams, probably more so after I heard it was suicide but that manic act always seemed like he was running from himself.
Paul Hester (Crowded House drummer) another suicide and another manic comedic behaviour guy.
Alec John Such (Bon Jovi Bassist) been into the band since I was a teen when I heard I was shocked.
John Lennon, probably the first celeb death that I was old enough to understand.
Trivia, I was in a record store when I heard Kurt Cobain killed himself. I was into Grunge and the record store girl was very upset by it. I wasn't phased too much, Nirvana may have been considered the Kings of the Grunge era but they were never a fave of mine.
I also remember when Steve Irwin died. I was at work and everyone was shocked. I never watched his show and thought he was a bit over rated.
Ray Liotta, especially because no one talked about it 😑
shareLooking back: John Keats (25), Emily Bronte (30), Percy Bysshe Shelley (29), Jane Austen (41)
In my time: John Lennon (40), Jimmy Hendrix (27), Jim Morrison (27), Marilyn (36)
The only celebrity death that ever made me cry was Michael Jackson. I know he got really weird towards the end of his life but his Thriller album was a huge part of my childhood, and I guess it felt like a part of my childhood had died.
Also Prince.
Hey 4L - nice to hear from you.
Yeah, you couldn't help, being from GENX, but be moved when MJ passed. True he became strange, but still - he was a major part of our growing up. I caught that one while surfing the internet, talk about a jolt. Had no idea it was coming - of course no one knew what he was really doing at that point (massive drugs).
Prince, not quite as shocking. If I remember correctly, there was an incident during a plane flight in which he almost died. Soon thereafter he did pass. It was a surprise, yes, but not as much as MJ. MJ was totally out of Left Field. Plus, he was prepping for the comeback tour (This is It) in London. He looked weird, yes, but this was par for the course.
But yeah, two guys that were big parts of our generation. Both dominated the 80s, and MJ of course, was huge in the 70s as well.
Thanks for your reply.
It will not be easy for me one day with Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill (I wish both still a long life).
