Gender swap The Travelling Wilburys - who would you choose?

Sheryl Crow
Chrissie Hynde
Carole King
Christine McVie
Suzi Quattro

All musicians, all songwriters.

reply

As long as Crow doesn't sing..

reply

She can be the Tom Petty, lol (I LOVE Tom Petty, btw).

reply

There ain't a thing wrong w/ Crow's singing.

reply

I love Sheryl Crow - I have all her albums and have seen her live a few times, hence by she was one of my picks.

reply

This is a fantastic topic, Andy. Hmm, let me see.

I love your choices but I'll try to come up with something different. In this case they're not all musicians. I'm just going by beauty of voice.

Linda Ronstadt
Dolly Parton
Karen Carpenter
Whitney Houston
Celine Dion

On a somewhat related note, are you familiar with the Fleetwood Mac song called Songbird, sung by Christine McVie? I forgot all about that one until just now but it's another one that makes me cry.

reply

Karen at least was a world class drummer in addition to her legendary voice.

I'd add Ann Wilson for vocals, but Parton's vocals bring tears to my eyes (and not in a good way).

reply

Yes I actually considered her but filled up my list of five quickly. 🙂 Ann was (and is) a powerhouse!

reply

I have all their albums and was fortunate to see them live.

reply

The five women in my list or Fleetwood Mac? Or all of the above?

reply

The Mac.

reply

👍

reply

Great picks.

reply

In the Dwight Twilley video “Girls” there is a woman who looks like the female version of Tom Petty.

reply

This I have to see.

reply

Tom Petty provided vocals for the song and when they made the video I guess he wasn’t available so that have a woman who looks like him pretending to sing his part.

reply

Hmmm... thinking of musicians still alive and performing today, plus in relationship to the male Wilburys:

1) George Harrison - Bonnie Raitt (both great slide guitar players)
2) Roy Orbison - Alison Krauss (voices of angels)
3) Tom Petty - Aimee Mann (both tall and blonde! 😃 Both great singer-songwriters)
4) Bob Dylan - Carole King (both great songwriters)
5) Jeff Lynne - Tracy Chapman (not a lot of similarities, but Tracy Chapman needs to be included... great voice and songwriter)

Great picks.

PJ Harvey
Joni Mitchell
Annie Lennox
Carole King
Patti Smith

reply

A cool lineup.

reply

Stevie Nicks
CHER
Taylor Swift
Reba McIntire
Lady Gaga

reply

An interesting mix.

reply

Brandi Love, Aaliyah Love, Abigail Mac, Cherie Deville and Hyapatia Lee. They get my motor running ...

reply

I’m unsure about their musical ability.

reply

The only one that I know of that was actually in a band was Hyapatia.

reply

Do you mean who they'd be now, or who they might've been back when the Wilbury thing was first conceived? It's been a while, so even the males would be recast now.

reply

It’s entirely up to you. It’s just for fun - no hard and fast rules.
