Modern audiences embrace it because they are also programmed and find comfort staying in a juvenile mindset. Basically it amounts to "I dont want to grow up Im a Toys-R-Us kid" to the Nth degree. Its impossible to overstate the power Walt Disney had on the world stage in terms of programming.
