I'm not trying to be rude, I'm honestly asking.

I guess because I work in the arts, it's a normal thing for me. If we are in a group cast setting, we all just say our names and preferred pronouns. It doesn't make a difference for me as I don't care what someone calls me, but if someone wants to be referred to as they/them, I'd rather know so I don't call them something that they don't want to be called.

It doesn't hurt a lot of people, but I don't want to take a chance and hurt someone unintentionally. I would hope that most people would be understanding as it's not something that I grew up with, so it's not the first thing that pops into my head. I will and have made mistakes, but I try to catch myself and correct myself. If I'm not sure, I ask, I don't just assume.

But anecdotally, I hate my given name. I have person reasons for that which are no one else's business, and it does cause me pain when people use it. Especially when I've asked them several times not to. What that says to me is that someone cares more about any inconvenience to themselves, than not causing me pain.

They are forcing us to accept what they feel. They can believe who or what they are as long as it stops at arm’s length. When they go beyond that they are into my space and making the world a more dangerous place. Taking down traffic signs because the signs somehow offended their warped feelings? I’m not a hater. I just don’t approve of their lifestyle which is mt right. BTW, it’s not silly! It’s just the beginning. You don’t realize at this point, our freedom of speech and beliefs are in jeopardy. We are being forced to speak a certain way, to believe a certain way…their way.

Social engineering is alive and well. “My thoughts are your thoughts.” We are being indoctrinated to accept their lifestyles. Can you imagine how difficult it is for a child to be taught one thing at home and church then at school they are taught the opposite. Of course reading, writing, & math have to make way for the new alphabet. They may graduate without knowledge of the above, but they for sure know about the different lifestyles! School is not the place for social engineering.

The only instruction needed for children is “It doesn’t matter what your beliefs are, you should be kind to one another. Treat them as you wish to be treated.” That’s it in a nutshell. No more…no less!

Also, people live in fear at their workplace.

To answer your question I believe the discussion I’m having currently is regarding homosexuals. As to trans types wouldn’t they be dressed as per their gender identity? Of course if I didn’t know the person I would address the person as Mr. if clothed in male garb or Ms. if clothed in female garb.

Also, since he, she, it are third person pronouns I wouldn’t address the person standing before me with one of those. Instead it would be ”You”. BTW, if a stranger I wouldn’t be aware if the person was “trans”.

I agree, at my company we have signatures that include our names, positions, locations and contact information. Everything you need to address me in a one on one contact is there. There is no need to use pronouns in such a format. Some names can throw you off, but since you are referring to them by their name it shouldn’t matter.

Agreed 100%. The whole thing is analogous to insisting that people introduce themselves with their horoscope sign just because some fringe cohort believes in it. I would no more participate in speech designed to force my acquiescence to the pseudoscience of astrology than I would to the pseudoscience of gender ideology.

I'll never forget the first time I met a transvestite as a teenager. It was in the red light district of a military town where my underage buddies and I used to go to buy booze during the weekends. All of a sudden one night, we encountered this tall black guy on a sidewalk, dressed like a female prostitute, but with a very deep male voice. I was mesmerized, frozen.
