❓ What would you do?

What would you do if you came home and the front door to your house or apartment was open? Would you go in?

I wouldn't. I'd call for help, and I don't even watch horror movies.

reply

It happened to us, we went it.

I have to assume they left the door open on their way out.

reply

So nobody here would think
"hmm , i must have left that door open on my way out , oops!" ?

seems most likely option to me

reply

🙋‍♂️

reply

I would assume I hadn't closed it properly and hope that a random creature hadn't wandered in!

reply

Yah!...say "Hallo" to the bear 🐻 or the moose. 🦌
Ok ok, a burglar is more likely to kill you. ☺

reply

I was thinking more like a raccoon or skunk, but I suppose a bear could be possible(a moose wouldn't fit through the doorframe!)

reply

Aw, that's so cute... Ok, I guess a young'un would fit! 😀

reply

Walk inside and see what’s up.

reply

This doesn't surprise me.
😉

reply

Yes, this. NOBODY invades my home without answering for it.
But I'd grab something 'clonky' or 'stabby' from my vehicle before rushing in.

I have switched to an aluminum bat and a screwdriver in the car instead of the Estwing framing hammer and Buck hunting knife I used to keep in the wheelwell, it's good to have a blunt instrument and a sharp point just in case but a bat gives you more range and a knife naturally makes the cops nervous and nosey whereas a screwdriver is fairly mundane if you ever get pulled over.

I love my family but goddamit my wife and kids can be real forgetful about locking doors and windows all day and night! Coming home to an open front door or garage stall has happened a few times and I want to holler at everyone about it but I try to keep my cool.
Thank goodness for my angry little loudmouthed dog and the Ring cameras, I just ordered a fifth camera for the property.

You just can't be too careful with these lunatics.

reply

Similar happened to me, more than once unfortunately, but I came in the front door only to find the back door smashed in. It's a truly awful feeling.

reply

Sickening. Did the criminals steal much?

Around here, we've had some issues lately with people breaking into cars overnight and stealing whatever they find. I live in an older neighborhood with small lots, homes built mainly in the 1920s before most folks had cars. This means garages were squeezed in later off the alley out back. Many houses have only single-car garages, but own more than one vehicle, so they have to park one outside. I'm glad my car is garaged all the time.

reply

We didn't have a lot, but they did steal a ring that meant a lot.

I still think it was either my ex brother in law, or someone my ex worked with because after we got the insurance claim and repurchased a lot of the stuff it happened again. Too much of a coincidence for me.

reply

I suspect you're correct - that it was someone you know. Sad. And frustrating!

reply

Sorry, I need to object here.
It's quite common for burglars to come back after waiting for a while.
Burglars also know how insurance works and then 'pick up' the new things too. ☹️

reply

It depends.

reply

On??

reply

On a lot of stuff - do I have a wife & kids inside, Am I young & strong, do I have a weapon in my car.. Certainly call 911 right off, but waiting after depends.

reply

what you do is you bark like a Dog & scream come out or the Dogs coming in

reply

It happened to me recently, I went into the shed got a spade and went in ready to protect my property, I'm sort of glad they had already left or I'd be in prison now probably.
