What are some movies that you were surprised to learn are actually considered "bad"?

These are some that I can recall, that genuinely surprised me when I finally got on the Internet & stuff.

Some bombed at the box office, most were panned by critics & some were the butt of jokes.

1. Waterworld (1995) - It was on tv a lot growing up & my friend & I freaking loved it.

2. Baby's day out (1994) - I have not seen this one in ages but man, this was watched so many freaking times by the whole household.

3. Wild Wild West (1999) - Even as an adult, I like this one. It's not great but man it's a fun watch

4. Last Action Hero (1993) - Saw this a teen & I freaking loved it. Charles Dance is excellent in it

5. Over the Top (1987) - One of Sly Stallone's forgotten films. Freaking loved this one growing up. Would watch I every time it was on TV.

Hot Tub Time Machine - really is a bad movie, but I always laugh my ass off when I watch it.

I completely forgot that they made a second one. Enjoyed the first one though.

I didn't know that was considered bad, I liked it. I don't think they were going for masterpiece anyway. It is kind of a spoof on time travel films.

This was a great idea for a thread man and you got a lot of great responses. Nice job

I saw "Over The Top" about a year or two after it was in theater, on VHS... About a handful of years ago, I was at my uncle's, and my cousins were into movies, worked at a drive-in, were in small movies, "directed" some, etc., and we were talking about focus/concentration, knowing the movie, as opposed to looking at the phone. "That's why you don't like the movie -- you weren't really paying attention to it. Anyone can watch a stupid movie and stare at their phone and get it because there's nothing to get. Problem-solution all the way through"

So the Stallone fanatic put in a video. "I saw this 20 years, but I bet I still remember it" and then drove them bonkers when I knew every fucking line.

"The world meets nobody halfway"
"Your old man's yellow, kid"
"Michael Cutler is MY boy!"
"Nose hurts, Hawk?"

which was odd because the cousin who put it in saw it a year ago, and when I tested him, he couldn't remember any lines.

Last Action Hero is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Other movies:

Beverly Hills Ninja (1997)
The Next Karate Kid (1994)
Snakes on a Plane (2006)
Maybe my biggest surprise is Cyborg (1989)

Not sure why so many of my picks are from 1992, but there you have it:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)
Captain Marvel (2019)
Death Becomes Her (1992)
Encino Man (1992)
Getting Even with Dad (1994)
Hook (1991)
Sleepwalkers (1992)
Suckerpunch (2011)
The Golden Child (1986)
The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)
Weird Science (1985)

Death Becomes Her is/was considered bad? What? I just watched it last week, for the first time & it was freaking great!

Also, The Long Kiss Goodnight is just excellent!

reply

The Long Kiss Goodnight is fun, kind of an old school film which they just don't make anymore. I watched Death Becomes Her ages ago and don't remember much about it. Seemed ok though at the time.

The Brothers Soloman - 2007 - IMDB 5.3

Loved it.

Light of Day (1987) it's not amazing but I think it is a pretty good film and Joan Jett does well in it.
