Does a drive-in movie theater count? As kids, a drive-in movie was the only way my family could afford to see a movie (6 kids). The earliest movie I remember was a Doris Day - Rock Hudson movie, but I'm not sure which one it was.

I really wanted to say Star Wars but it may have been Pete's Dragon. Another possibility may have been one of the Herbie films.

Either "Snow White" or "Bambi", and no, I'm NOT old enough to have seen the original release! Back before home video, Disney used to send their classic films back to theaters every seven years, so they could sucker in a whole new generation of kids.
