Your thoughts on Drew Barrymore?

Troubled and wild upbringing but a talented actress. Great interviewer too. πŸ‘

My feelings on her are mixed.

On the one hand, I loved her in movies like "Ever After," "Never Been Kissed," and "E.T." She is a very good actress.

But on the other hand, I've heard about and seen picture/video evidence of what a messed-up person she is in real life. My brother did research on her and nicknamed her "Drew ScrewMeMore." That, and a lot of other films she's either starred in or played a smaller role weren't my cup of tea.

Her mom really should have been shot for being such a terrible parent and getting her daughter involved with drugs at such a young age.

Her mom, or her deadbeat dad? He was the one who descended from a famous and presumably powerful acting legacy. Unfortunately, he seemed to end up the same way as the privileged Getty kids.

reply

She was the best thing about "E.T." and "Ever After" is my favorite film with her.

She survived two horrible parents. There's a photo of her drunk at around 8 at Studio 54 in the middle of the night. And at 14 she lived with David Crosby and his wife to gain some normalcy in her life and beat her addictions. She must have a strong character in order to survive and thrive.

Her mother grew up in a refugee camp after WW2, so she had her own issues, also.

reply

Her father was born into an acting dynasty. He must have been a complete asshole to have turned into such a mess.

Also, the problem with conservatives is that they blame everyone. The problem with certain liberals is that they treat everyone as if they're a victim.

The truth, as with most things in life, is usually somewhere in the middle. We need to stop disparaging people and putting them down, but we also need to stop simping for them and excusing them for their *own* choices.

Drew said many Barrymores drank heavily so in her child mind she thought that was necessary to be a great actress. Perhaps a lot of family dysfunction?

Drew became a drug addict and alcoholic as a young child. I would never blame a young child for that. She shouldn't have been at nightclubs and exposed to drugs and alcohol.

Her father wasn't very successful. Four marriages. He seemed miserable.

Off topic: Barrymore family has been acting since at least the 1700s.

Conservatives have been dragging her name through the mud for kneeling before a trannie.

It's like she was seeking redemption from Jesus!

To answer the question: I always think of her as a drug-addled alcoholic mess.

reply

I think she's been clean for a while now but she's damaged goods and can't hold a long-term relationship. Plus she worshipped a tranny, yes.

reply

She seems sweet.

I know damaged people, and after the torrid life she led I can imagine she's damaged, often struggle to hold long-term relationships, but she presents as genuinely well-adjusted and chilled-out (although it still bugs me that she turned against Woody Allen, and apologised for appearing in one of his films; how can she be sure that Allen abused Dylan Farrow?)

reply

Well she's emblematic of woke Hollywood. And I'm not one of those guys who rails against woke. It's just that she does the expected political lockstep.

It seems she has it together now. But it's like her acting career is over and she's Oprah now.

But yeah, that's negative woke that she turned against Woody Allen. There's no proof the man did anything wrong. But there's that political lockstep again.

In August 1992, American filmmaker and actor Woody Allen was alleged by his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow, then aged seven, of having sexually molested her in the home of her adoptive mother, actress Mia Farrow, in Bridgewater, Connecticut.[1] Allen has repeatedly denied the allegation.[2][3]

The Connecticut State's Attorney investigated the allegation but did not press charges.[5] The Connecticut State Police referred Dylan to the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of Yale–New Haven Hospital, which concluded that Allen had not sexually abused Dylan and the allegation was likely coached or influenced by Mia Farrow.[6][7] The New York Department of Social Services found "no credible evidence" to support the allegation.[8]

"And I'm not one of those guys who rails against woke. It's just that she does the expected political lockstep."

Cool. You seem reasonable then. I'm tired of all the 'anti-woke' bleeting, but at the same time, I'm also sceptical of people who say the 'right things' simply out of obligation or to appear virtuous.

I'm not anti-woke. But I am anti-insincerity and against any unwilligness to apply critical thinking.

reply

Probably would have been better to draw Barry less.

reply

A lot hotter than given credit for she was the best looking one in the Charlie's Angels films.

reply

'she was the best looking one in the Charlie's Angels films'

I definitely agree with that.

reply

I prefer Lucy Liu, but I respect her hotness in CA nonetheless.
