I don't understand Judge Judy's appeal. Does anyone here like her?
I find her abrasive, rude and shrill.
shareI find her abrasive, rude and shrill.
shareShe tells it like it is.
shareI can't stand her or her imitators.
The whole genre is obviously meant to appeal to mean-spirited, small-minded, judgmental people who wish they could go around punishing anyone who offends their sensibilities, and I can't stand people like that. Or their chosen entertainment.
I love Judge Judy.
shareMy mum loves the show.
shareI think the point is you are not supposed to like her. Where would the entertainment value be in her being nice to everyone? Who would watch that?
You should look up Judge Rinder, a UK show along similar lines. Rob Rinder can be funny, bitchy and ferocious in equal measure. And he is as camp as they come. Much more entertaining.
Oh, she watched Judge Rinder as well.
shareI think you just described the appeal. I used to watch it here and there. It was funny because she is such a bitch.
shareIf you've seen one ep you've seen them all.
shareAll the older women in my family loved her in the early days, but they all said she became an out of touch lunatic later on. To me she was always a maniac. Women in power just going berserk.
shareI actually thought JJ was quite decent in the early days from the mid to late 90s. Tough, stern and fair. But in recent years she's come a raging bitch who snaps at little things. She's become quite unwatchable.
shareI see a lot of her because for whatever insane reason, these court shows are on in every waiting room in the country for 20 years.
shareThat is my opinion, too (I might stretch it to the early 2000s). I've been watching some older episodes on YouTube and am reminded why I was a fan back then.
shareCan't stand her. Wife loves her.
PS: Wife hates it when I point out obvious errors on the show.
