Freddie Mercury, Boy George, George Michael and other fabulously talented gay men were on MTV and were industry trendsetters. There were lots of straight guys who followed these trends. Duran Duran were straight guys (I think) but had tons of women fans. They wore make up, open shirts. Much like the Korean boy bands now (BTS) and all their make up and fashion.

shareIdk maybe a lot of footage of the 80s was taking during warmer months or at least presenting the illusion of summer, as is most advertising. If you look at the winter side of men's fashion in the 80s, while there is still a lot of colour, it's balancing out the feminine/androgynous styling with some classic dad fashion.
