Name a really good obscure film.

Name a film that a lot of people might not have seen that you thought was really good.

Gang Related. I thought it was really good. Don't think it's a very well known film, good story, good performances and just overall very enjoyable.

Companeros (1970) A Corbucci spaghetti western that never gets the recognition that the more popular films of the genre do, but it’s one of my favorites. Stars Franco Nero, Jack Palance and Tomas Milian. Morricone score.

Pontypool (2008)

Shot for about $15K on primarily one set with a small cast, it’s really pretty suspenseful.

I think I've seen that. Zombie flick?

reply

Sort of. Some ‘rage’ type virus seems to be turning the locals in a little Canadian town into homicidal lunatics. The suspense and fear are all generated via radio reports and there is not a great deal of on-screen action, it’s mostly all suggested until the final few minutes.

Ah, that's it. Yes, it was pretty good!

I see this name every now and then and immediately think of the Welsh town with the famous rugby team - then remember it's a film set in Canada. I feel like I'm being catfished.

All three are fine thrillers.
The Green Room and The Invitation were very good as well.

A Hazard of Hearts (1987) - The 21 year old and very beautiful Helena Bonham Carter stars as the leading lady in this made for TV bodice ripper. The film is a romance based on a Barbara Cartland novel. But it is all done with such style and cheek that the film is a delightful romp. Top notch cast full of big names as well.

The Man in the Moon (1991) - A 14 year old Reese Witherspoon shows that she always had the acting talent in this story about unvarnished life on the land. The story is both tragic and uplifting which is pretty good going. Sam Waterston is great as Reese's stern but loving father.

The Secret of Roan Inish (1994) - This is a really slow film but if you can sink down into it you enjoy an almost magical excursion into another time and place.

Freeway (1996) Reese Witherspoon as Vanessa Lutz takes this film and throttles it by the neck ! She is determinedly pursued by Kiefer Sutherland ( a serial killer ) after she turns the tables on him in their first encounter.

La Gloire de Mon Père and its sequel Le Château de Ma Mère, both from 1990.

Karakter from 1997.

Hunters Blood (1987) A deer hunting trip with the guys goes wrong when a local poaching operation is discovered. Hicksploitation here that’s more fun than Deliverance, staring Sam Bottoms, Kim Delaney, Clu Gulager, Joey Travolta, Billy Drago and Billy Bob Thornton.
