Movies that are hated but aren't that bad

The Adventures of Pluto Nash
Not a great movie but not awful either.

Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever

Have seen most of the films mentioned and dislike most of those, fwiw. That said, while it wasn't "great" or anything, Waterworld was pretty good imo, and I just heard about the Ulysses cut...

reply

I was checking to see if anyone mentioned that one .
WW is great!

people only think its rubbish because it went over budget and the media told everyone it would therefore be rubbish , and thus people didnt give it a chance.

I dont get the logic - to me a movie thats taken longer than they thought and had extra money spent on it should be extra good!

Daredevil

Agree

The irony is I am not really into super hero films generally but I really liked Daredevil. Maybe that is why the comic book fans didn't like it, it's missing some element that they really enjoy.

I liked that for the most part it was kind of gritty and didn't have the usual Marvel formula. Which wasn't around at the time of this film of course.

reply

I also liked Daredevil. One of these days I have to watch the Director's Cut, which is supposed to be better than the theatrical release.

reply

I've seen it, it is good. It provides a bit more depth than the standard release.

The Last Movie (1971)

Granted, it may very well be the fact that my enjoyment of any given film tends to be directly related to how impenetrable, abstruse and just plain weird it is, but I really couldn't understand why it got the reception it did back in its day.

reply

I encounter a lot of movies on tubi that are better than what their ratings suggest.

reply

There is also the opposite, bad films that are rated highly.

reply

Based on my viewing experience, not as much as the other way around.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It's the weakest Indiana Jones movie by far, but still not that bad a watch. I didn't hate it like a lot of people did.

reply

I agree, it’s the weakest but still has enough excitement to keep you watching.

reply

I think it's just because the refrigerator scene was jumping the shark.

Battlefield Earth

reply

I watched it before I knew anything about scientology and it was an ok sci-fi movie, similar to say, Fortress, Soldier, etc.

reply

I love Staying Alive and thought Sylvester Stallone did a great job with it.

reply

John Travolta at his physical peak. 👍👍

reply

Absolutely. Sylvester Stallone put him on a strict diet and exercise plan and it really paid off; but I also read/ heard John Travolta say that he didn’t want to be that thin again or that it wasn’t sustainable. Sly had him working out hours everyday. He was sexy though 😍

reply

It really is an awful movie, but a really entertaining one!

In ways that Stallone didn't intend, of course.
