Will younger generations grow up thinking that females are the gender associated with combat and action?

As kids, we get a lot of our world-view from movies and TV. I, for example, grew up in the 70s and 80s watching male action heroes like Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.

Now that most action movies feature slender, attractive women doing all the fighting and adventuring and defeating large male goons, will future generations consider that image of the gun-toting fashion model as the archetypal action character?

reply

I grew up around the same time as you and I watched action heroes such as Ellen Ripley, Wonder Woman, She-Ra, Charlies Angels, let us not ignore Coffee, Foxy Brown, Princess Leia, and Sarah Connor T2.

reply

Spot on🎯

reply

So do you view females as the dominant image of an action hero?

reply

Neither men nor women should be ‘dominant’ in action, thriller or horror roles. Horror pictures, especially slasher movies, have a decades long tradition of ‘The Final Girl’ character who frequently made minced meat of the masked lunatic in the final act.

reply

That shut him up 😂

reply

Apparently not.

reply

It's Sarah CONNOR. Only Ahnuld has the right to say "Conner."

reply

Thanks.

reply

It's all fantasy. When they start their next war, you best believe 99% of the combat troops will be men. You can't change biology.

reply

Idk about 99%. More likely 100%.

reply

The irony here is that though women expect equal opportunity, they will gladly opt out of combat duty. I don't think it will be 100% though. There will be a small number of women who opt for combat.

I'll say one thing though. If there is ever a society so deluded by the concept that biological sex is irrelevant that their combat troops are 50/50 male/female, when they lose their first battle that will change quickly.

Harsh reality will show them that Wonder Woman and She-Ra will always be fantasy.

reply

Eh, that's not woman thing. Many people men and women, and trans, and attack helicopters, would like to opt out of combat duty. Myself included. Still, I expect equal opportunity, no less.

Harsh reality will show them that Wonder Woman and She-Ra will always be fantasy.

Well, Superman and He-Man will always be fantasy as well.

reply

I think a lot of men who were drafted in the past would have preferred to opt out, and were ill suited to combat, and died. I am female and as one who desires equal opportunity feels that it is only fair that women get drafted just like men if a draft were to return.

reply

I'm not a woman so I'm not reprezentin' them. But me, myself, would try as hard as I can to not get drafted. Dying for your country is one thing, but to die in a random modern war is another.

reply

I agree with that. If my country were to be invaded I'd fight however I was able. I'm not sure I'd want to be overseas fighting for something that I don't agree with.

reply

Eh, yes, it's a woman thing. No country has anything close to 50/50 in combat. And I don't know about you, but I don't want my mother sister or daughter in trenches with a bunch of men. Males and females are biologically different.

And I'm with you. I have no desire to be in combat. But I've known plenty of guys who joined the military who wanted to be in combat. Check out the U.S. Marines.

reply

You're forgetting the most important ones... all the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park are female. I ain't messing with no T-Rex or raptor.

I turned out better than you did, Nancy.

Exactly what a dork would say!

How would your life be different if you had access to free internet porn as the youth has now.

reply

I'd probably sexualize everything I see in a Beavis & Butthead kind of way, like most people under 35 or so do.

reply

riiight , like that never happened in the 70s and 80s

reply

Betcha 100 bucks that whynotwriteme here has never been in a fist fight.

reply

PM me so you can send the 100 bucks to my PayPal account, OK?

reply

Most of the 70s and 80s macho masculine male action stars had never been to a fist fight either.

reply

THAT IS PATENTLY FALSE.

reply

How so? They are actors. Not real fighters.

reply

NORRIS,SEAGAL AND VAN DAMME WERE ALL ACTUAL FIGHTERS BEFORE ACTING...STALLONE GREW UP HELL'S KITCHEN WITH PARTIAL FACIAL PARALYSIS,AND LATER TRAINED AS A BOXER FOR LIKE A DECADE...CHARLES BRONSON WAS A FUCKING VETERAN...SCHWARZENEGGER SERVED IN THE AUSTRIAN ARMY AND SPENT A LONG TIME WITH THE STIGMA OF HIS NAZI ARMY SERVING FATHER...SHIT EVEN BRUCE WILLIS...HE HAD A STUTTER AS A CHILD AND LATER WORKED AS A SECURITY GUARD AND PRIVATE INVESTIGATER...WHO DID I MISS?

DUDES HAVE BEEN IN SOME FIST FIGHTS.

reply

Idk, man... In the 70s and 80s we also didn't have Internet so lots of Hollywood's "legendary legends" were actually fake / never happened / exaggerated.

And it was fine back then because they thought it was part of being entertainers / stars. Hollywood was full of mystery and mysticims, they are separate from the plebs. Think of it as how magicians keep their persona as if they really do magic in real life, Choo Ling Soo style.

Just look at how now Hollywood stars talk about politics and science as if they are real experts on those stuffs. I could see some 70s and 80s action stars talk big on fighting as if they're the real deal. They were athletic for sure, that's obviously real, some were martial artists / athletes, doesn't mean they actually have been in a real fist fight.

Even now people doubt that Bruce Lee actually ever fought. He was a super ripped and extremely athletic person no doubt, but fighting credentials were not as convincing as what people believed in the 70s and 80s.

reply

LMAO...HARD PASS ON THAT BULLSHIT...THE DUDES WERE IN FIST FIGHTS AND SOME OF THEM WERE BONA FIDE BADASSES.

reply

Being a badass is not necessarily have to be in a fist fight.

Also, having been in a fist fight doesn't mean one is automatically a badass.

Those things are related but only loosely related.

YOU ARE CHOPPING WORDS...

YES THEY HAVE...STORY OVER,DINGLEBERRY.🥒

reply

I was replying to your last reply, it has slightly diverged from the original topic; from having a fist fight to being a badass.

reply

NO...YOU DIVERGED IT.

reply

Conversations often naturally diverged.

What do you want in a convesation? Concentration? Stay on topic or risk being ignored?

I doubt 70s and 80s action stars has been in a fist fight. You insisted they had.

Then that is all. Nothing to converse then.

YOU ARE WRONG...I AM RIGHT...FOR THE RECORD,SUSAN.😘

May I suggest Asian Babes Vol. VIII.

reply

All shit. The only one that counts is my boy Arnie.

reply

I don’t think so because with the male heroes many of them were combat vets themselves and even if they weren’t they looked the part.

There were also plenty of men doing those things in the real world.

With modern female action heroes you get tiny women toting weapons they wouldn’t be able to lift in real life.

Whilst in the real world the heroes remain male.

reply

In the real world there are no heroes.

reply

Women viewers want women to be a part of the action, so why not? Most men don't seem to mind it either.

The days of the damsel in distress are long gone.

The reality, as everyone knows is different. We men are EXPENDABLE! Women are much more important..They are needed to raise babies for the next generation, they usually don't take part in warfare.

reply

Oh, women, they take part in warfare. Ask the Japanese.

reply

Poor choice of words on my part.

In 2020, the Green Berets, arguably one of the most coveted special force branches in the USA, finally had a woman pass it's rigorous qualifications.

reply

And then she quit to get married and have babies?

reply

Let's have a generation where the women do the fighting and dying. we can reconsider at the end of the generation.

reply

Will younger generations grow up thinking that females are the gender associated with combat and action?

where are you going with this?
is this an actual concern of yours in your brain?
is this a problem you foresee?
...because its hardly likely is it?

or is this just yet another thread lamenting the shrinking gap of your male superiority over women?
similar to your "we men could kill all the women if we felt like it" thread ?

cos lemme tell you, even though you have a dick , your retarded mental state puts you way below the vast majority of women in the "being a decent human" league table

reply

It's an honest question. In the future, will kids have the image of a small, attractive woman as their idea of a tough action hero due to constant exposure to that sort of character in modern movies?

I wonder why this makes you so defensive and insecure as to make the remarks you did?

BTW. Can you link my

"we men could kill all the women if we felt like it" thread ?
Because I have no record of it in my history. Thanks.

It took a bit if digging but i found it

No! they wont . There'll be plenty of examples of both sexes .
plus - action heroes are fictional and dont really exist so does it matter?

and as the other posters said , there were plenty before , adding a few more wont make any difference
