Good movies that are too long

sharePeter Jackson's King Kong (2005) - I genuinely love the film but good God, it's too fuckng long. It's almost 3 & a half hours long. It takes so freaking long just to get to the island.
Whenever I do rewatch it, I just skip ahead to when they arrive at the island. Cause the stuff on Skull Island is so excellent. And most of it has aged so amazingly.
Peter Jackson have big problem with editing in all of his movies.
shareYeah. You really wouldn't need to cut that much for the movie to feel a lot shorter. Maybe ten minutes or so. A lot of the scenes showing off the scenery and that sort of thing. A scene going on for a minute or two too long can make it feel a lot longer.
It's really a pacing problem more than any particular length being too long for a movie, IMO. JFK is a fairly long movie too, but there isn't really anything I'd cut from that. It needed to be a longer movie. There's a lot going on there.
It's funny but I always thought I hated King Kong. But I catch it from time to time on cable, bits and pieces, and I get sucked right in. So I sat down to watch it again and boy if I didn't just hate it all over again! And you nailed it. It's too long.
shareIt takes like an hour of the run time for them to just get to island. I don't really care for that New York bit or the stuff on the boat.
The Skull Island stuff are best part of the film for me but it takes too freaking long just to get there.
And it should've just ended with them escaping Skull Island in my opinion. The final third of the just isn't as interesting. At least for me.
it is a good movie but the cgi is the biggest issue. it looked horrible then and still looks horrible now.
