How often do you watch...๐Ÿ“บ

...your local news broadcast?

1) Every day
2) Almost every day
3) A couple of times a week
4) Occasionally
5) Never

#2 - I watch nearly every day, but then again, I have to watch the station from the nearest metro area which is 45 miles away - there is no local station where I live. I have to stream it and it gets a bit complicated when there's a sports event, such as football, that delays the broadcast.

reply

Never. Well, almost never. I have an antenna that is used during hurricanes to get local radar and news.

reply

Hardly ever. I watch sky news every day for whatever they consider is national/international news. I check my local newspaper's website a few times a week.

reply

I watch the weather because the weather lady looks nice.

reply

Never. It's become way too biased. I just check different sites and still take everything with a grain of salt.

reply

4) Occasionally - and most of the time it's for the weather forecast, which I wonder why I even bother with because they can't get it right.

The only news channel I watch regularly is the BBC News. Sometimes I will watch the PBS NewsHour because they go beyond the sound bites and feature more in-depth coverage of events.

reply

option 2.

reply

Occasionally, I watch it with my mother.
Otherwise, I get my news on my tablet through the Internet these days.

And 45 miles away isn't local enough?
To us, that is very local indeed.
Most of the news broadcasts here in Sweden come from Stockholm, which is 330 miles away from our town.
There are some more local news broadcasts too though...

reply

You're right. 45 miles isn't very far. I guess it just feels far because things that are important to the Twin Cities don't have the same importance here. I guess it comes from growing up in the Cities and being used to very local news, and we just don't have that here. It's one of those adjustments that I haven't really gotten used to, I suppose.

reply

I don't anymore. It's really sick how my local stations show several hours of news everyday. It must be cheap and they make money off of it, otherwise they wouldn't do it. I miss the old days when you could see MASH reruns at night and other shows during the day.

reply

I suppose that, as usual, it's all about money. When I lived in the Twin Cities there were plenty of local talk shows that kept one informed, but I don't think they do that much anymore.

reply

It seems like the local talk shows that are on immediately after the news are nothing more than advertisements for local businesses. One would think that the station is getting some sort of kickback for that. Are they selling advertising? If so, why aren't they disclosing the fact that it's a paid advertisement? Fox 17 Morning Mix and WXMI in Grand Rapids MI is a prime example of this. They're always interviewing some local business owner or somebody who runs some kind of clinic. It's a good way for those places to drum up some extra business.
