I always assumed it was an easy job. Just take orders and bring food back to customers. I know that's a very simplistic and ignorant view. Yet, alot of waiters seem to hate their job and they say it's very difficult.
I worked as a waiter at a wedding reception center during high school, which I loved, the customers were always happy and friendly and the menus were usually set so there was no taking orders. It was easy and fun.
I then worked at a Lebanese restaurant while at university and it was truly horrific. The customers were rude, the boss was a frigging Nazi and the pay was terrible. I quit after they wouldn't let me go home when I was hit with a bout of gastro during a shift. I was literally throwing up in the toilet then going back out to serve customers, it was insane. Put me off hospitality for life.
Yeah man. On my first shift at the Lebanese restaurant I was serving some bloated businessman who could tell I was nervous and asked me "how long have you been here?". When I told him it was my first shift he said "well, you won't last long." I laughed it off but internally was wanting to throttle the asshole.
He was kind of right though lol I didn't last all that long but I loved my next job in media monitoring, so it all ended well.
Waitressing is the number one occupation for female non-college graduates in this country. It's the one job basically any woman can get and make a living on. The reason is because of their tips.
Yeah best actress awards are stupid. I mean, what makes actress can't compete with actors anyway?
In sports, there are male and female categories because the differences in physical attributes. If there were no women tennis no woman would ever win world grand slams.
But acting does not depends on the sex or gender. An actress can have better acting than any actor. So to have awards specifically to females are silly and unecessary.
What's next? Best male and best female director awards? Best male and female make up artist awards? Best male and female soundtrack composer awards?
Why singled out actors and actresses? What makes acting oh so special that they HAVE to be differentiated by what type of genitals they sport between their legs? What if a really good movie star is a transgender? Would they gave the best actor or best actress award?
I had a waitressing job when I was in high school. I think it depends on the restaurant and the type of clientele they draw. Most of the time it was an okay job, but there are always the demanding jerks who decided their mission was to make your job miserable.
Mainly, it was being on your feet during your entire shift, carrying sometimes heavy trays of food, and feeling overwhelmed when things got busy that made it difficult. And the constant trying to please everyone all the time. You always seem to get those people who aren't happy no matter how hard you try. Yes, dealing with the public can be very difficult.
MY WIFE WAS A WAITRESS IN NY FOR SOME YEARS...ALL DAY ON YOUR FEET DEALING WITH THE GENERAL PUBLIC...SHE LOVED THE JOB AND THE TIPS,BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE.ITS A TOUGH JOB.
Yes, all food service jobs are difficult. Juggling drunk customers, cranky chefs, stupid coworkers, spills, messes, heavy trays all on top of running around and not sitting down for hours. It is tiring and you get treated like dirt.
I've worked as a waiter and in hospitality in various fields. The job itself tends to be reasonably simple what can make it stressful is the boss. A lot of the bosses/owners are really tightly wound and stress about all sorts of shit which then puts their staff on edge which leads to self doubt and mistakes.
Worst place I worked was for a husband and wife team. The husband's experience was in selling cars and the wife liked to make cakes in the microwave and sell them. Dickheads.
It was very comical, husband would tell you to do something one way, wife comes out and says to do it another way. There was a lot of drama and bullshit.
