Is waitressing really that difficult? Ever worked as one or know someone who did?

I always assumed it was an easy job. Just take orders and bring food back to customers. I know that's a very simplistic and ignorant view. Yet, alot of waiters seem to hate their job and they say it's very difficult.

You remind of the customer in Waiting.

It can be. Related to my job, I have had to go to restaurants with arrogant jerks who thought it made them look big by belittling and mistreating servers. I don’t know how they don’t realize it just makes them look like jerks. It’s kind of a red flag to us that this is a jerk who we cant trust and don’t want to be associated with.
It can be very unfair to the poor server.

I don't understand the rationale in treating somebody who is handling YOUR FOOD poorly. It isn't unheard of for servers or cooks to spit on people's foods when they mistreat them.

reply

In high end restaurants, I doubt that happens no matter how big a jerk they are. Still, it makes your fellow diners embarrassed to be with you and makes you look like an idiot.
I agree with you. I don’t think it ever makes sense to treat people badly, regardless of whether they can do anything to you.

reply

Its the hardest job I've ever had.

reply

Yeah, it seems like an unappreciative job.
