Toronto had quite the punk movement in the early 1980s and there used to be these concerts held in the eastern end of the city in some abandoned warehouse. I actually went to a couple of concerts and witnessed the young white male suburban angst up close and personal. The music didn't seem to matter as long as it was loud.
There was some good music that came out of this time.
I haven't even tackled the 80's yet. That list would be too long.
Apparently I was feeling a little nostalgic today. lol
The Irish Rovers were a Toronto based group, my parents loved that group. I am surprised you have heard of them. They had a show on Canadian TV for years
My mom had quite an extensive record collection.
I got a taste of quite a wide range of music.
My grandparents also introduced me to music before that.
I've always had music in my life from as long as I can remember.
It is somewhat worrisome that I like so many Canadian artists.
I may have to rethink this.
Not to be a downer, but Wind Beneath My Wings always reminds me of my sister. She died shortly after Bette Midler's version was a hit. Which means I rarely listen to it because it makes me miss her all the more even though she's been gone for years.
I lived in AZ for many years and had friends that went to ASU and NAU for that matter.
I spent a good deal of time at those places.
Unfortunately studying wasn't on the agenda.
I didn't either, but I lived in AZ for 8 years. At one time I was dating a guy who had season tickets to Sun Devil football, so I got to attend a number of games. Good times.
I lived in Phoenix, then Glendale, and Mesa the last 3 years I was there. Of course, this was a hundred years ago (seems like it anyway). No, never went to the Devil House. I used to spend Saturday nights at Manzanita Speedway. It was great fun - dirt track racing, sprint cars were my favorite, but also modified, super-modified, and street stocks. I visited Tucson several times - the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and Old Tucson, too. Skied at the Snowbowl in Flagstaff, visited the red rocks of Sedona, and Jerome.
I've been to Manaznita.
In those days I was into racing a little bit.
We had a good fried of the family, Hershel McGriff who used to race a lot in those days.
He was more of a stock car guy but did win the Winston West Series in 1986.
I got to hang out in the pits for a couple races that year.
The desert museum is beautiful. I've been to Old Tucson several times also.
Good history there.
Right now with this weather I wish I was smack dab in the middle of the desert.
We know what sun and rain does but what does the cold do?
I can't see any good that comes from this sub zero weather.
Other than makes us appreciate the warm weather I guess.
I saw that.
We may even get above freezing next week. Barely.
All this means is instead of snow we'll have freezing rain.
So much to look forward to. lol
How did we get so lucky.
(It irritates me to no end that the above video only includes about half the song, but I can't find the full version anywhere in an easy to post format, so if it tickles your earballs at all, try to track down the album it's on. All Eleanor Friedberger is good Eleanor Friedberger!)
I have just as much Cash in my music then anybody else.
There was also an episode of Drunk History about this song.
This is just a small clip. I can't find the whole thing.
It was really funny.
In was in the 1960s between Johnny's marriages I believe - there was a whole lot of alcohol and drug consumption. The were periods of time when they never left the house.
