What's Your Song?

Music is powerful.
We all have songs that can remind of us a certain event or take us back
to a certain good time.

Two that come to my mind first are

Power Windows by Billy Falcon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLIFnMExtNs&list=RDiLIFnMExtNs
Reminds me of somebody very close to me who isn’t around anymore.
A lot of good memories.

Devil Inside- INXS
Reminds of one night at the Devil House at ASU.
One glorious debauchery filled night.

What songs do it for you?

reply

Today, I pick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yqUrpLNnlc

reply

That was good
Thx
Would be a fine addition to an indie film soundtrack
The girl wakes up alone in bed and hes gone...or maybe a slo-mo killing spree montage
Endless possibilities with that sound
Good pick!

reply

All Komeda is good Komeda.

reply

Yeah, it's the Christmas in July marketing strategy .

reply

They still continue to do this even in this day and age.
It must still work on some people.

reply

Can you imagine what zombies we would be if subliminal programming hadn't been banned in movie theaters many years ago ?

reply

I think they switched it from theaters to phones.

From what I've seen it has some sort of Svengali/zombie effect on a lot of people.

reply

You're right ! They weren't about to be thwarted.

reply

LOL!

Now that's funny.

OK, you have no idea what is going on here, it's basically a (lame) birthday song. The reason I remember it is because my 5-7 year "main" teacher used to sing it _anytime _someone is the class had a birthday. It's a fun/ny memory (she also may or may not have been an alcoholic).

En Vogue - Free Your Mind. Takes me back to my prom and a dance with a guy dubbed "Crazy" Bobby. He was a certified nutso, not a bad dancer though.

Lady in Red, me and a friend used to sing "lady in red, is dancing with me, butt to butt" just randomly in school. It's still "our" song. And we still sing butt instead of cheek /in Bulgarian of course/

Eruption - One Way Ticket. A terrible, filthy, disgusting lodge in the mountains and a terrific fun time with some classmates from University.

And many more I imagine, but, you know, my memory...

reply

Thank you.
You're a couple weeks late but whatever. It's the thought that counts I guess.
As long as she didn't throw chalk at you it sounds like a good memory.
You see drunks are fun. I've already taught you this.

Nutso and good dancing go hand in hand or maybe it's go butt to butt. I can't really remember.

priklad da se priklad ???? Either way would love to hear it sometime.

Eruption is no Neil Sedaka but not bad. It's very you.

Yes I do know. That's what worries me.
"You remember Dewey"
Who????????

reply

It _is_ the thought that counts, yes.

Hey! That chalk made me what I am today! Not enough teachers use it as a teaching method. Very effective.

She once went to a home visit to a friend's and got so drunk she forgot where she lived. His dad had to drive her around for hours untill she saw something familiar. So, yeah, a safe bet she was a little too fond of the drink.

Damn...this bulgarian. OK, have you been google-translating again? We talked about this lol. "Priklad" is the back end of a rifle. I can't really accurately transliterate it, but it's "guz" (like the U in cut). So, "Lady in red, is dancing with me, guz do guz". (It's more ass than butt, but I was trying to be polite lol.) It doesn't work in English _at all_, the whole joke is the ass in Bulgarian. ... And now I'm explaining an inside joke, and that's always fun. I'll stop now.

Wait, is that song a Neil Sedaka cover? And you know I love a bit of disco! Fun times.

I might get fuzzy on the details, but I _won't_ forget you!

reply

I think the term "fond" may be an understatement.
So glad she was helping shape young minds.

I know we've talked about it. I thought maybe I got smarter over the last few months.
We both know the answer to this so we'll just leave it at that.
I am now officially done. Thanks for trying.

I think it is a cover.

Either way I'll never know will I? So you really can't lose this one.

reply

She taught us early on that no matter the behaviour of a person, you really can't get fired from a government job. A valuable lesson.

I do enjoy you trying. You often fail, but this time it's out of your hands.

Three seconds of googling and I discovered it _is_ a Sedaka cover. Music was so much more original back then, wasn't it (said every old person who's started to loose their memory).

I can never lose, in any situation, but in this case it's a sure thing. You'll just have to ponder that one for eternity.

reply

That is a valuable lesson. If it wasn't for your innate ability to frighten children
you could have been set for life. I'm sure you can throw chalk with the best of them.

Everything is indeed out of my hands these days.

"Music was so much more original back then, wasn't it"
Are you quoting me again?

"I can never lose, in any situation"
Some would say you already have just by replying to me.

I certainly hope there is an eternity.
Couldn't think of a better way to spend it thinking about you.

reply

Mandolin Wind - early Rod Stewart

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlCLTWRFVyI

reply

I really like that song.

reply

Drops of Jupiter reminds of the death of my grandmothers. Because it's actually quite a sad song and because I heard it not long after the first of them died.

There are many songs that take me back to a certain period in my life, but from the top of my head I can't think of any others that remind me of a specific event.

reply

Sorry girl.
The songs we associate with something bad are always tough.
I always try to switch it and think about the good times but it's really tough to do that sometimes.

reply

My eyes started to well up just thinking about it!😢

But hey, I just remembered Sex on the Beach by T-Spoon! In 1998 we went on student exchange trip to Northern Ireland, and my friend and I did the naughty dance accompanying the song at a wedding reception. All the guests, young and old, followed our moves!😆

reply

Ohhhh, now you're going to get me started.
When I get started crying it's a mess.

Now that's a good memory and a fun song.

reply

That’s a wonderful song. Another great Train song is “Calling All Angels”.

reply

In no particular order (due to the randomness of my mind):

Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes
Tub Thumping by Chumbawhumba
Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones
We Are The Champions by Queen (my softball's team's theme when we won championships)
Need You Tonight by INXS

I'll probably think of more later.

😎

reply

There you go.

I thought for sure it would be Glenn Miller or Tommy Dorsey. ;)

reply

Good one and LOL, godewey! You crack me up!

BTW Glenn Miller was one of my Dad's favs. But his favorite song of all time was "When They Begin the Bequine" by Cole Porter.

😎

reply

I actually like some of that big band stuff

Miller, Dorsey and Red Nichols and his 5 Pennies.

reply

I actually have a biggest hits by Glenn Miller.

😎

reply

Buddy Rich and his drum solos !

reply

How could we forget.

We've already named some of the people he played with so it makes sense.
Damn, he was good.

reply

I'm sure there are people on here completely oblivious to him.

reply

Unfortunately you're probably right.

reply

But what about this, which seems to me to encapsulate different generations of music coming together ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ5gCGJorKk

reply

I love that.
"She was a red-hot hoochie-coocher"

I like when movies use older music.
It introduces a whole new generation to music they might not have never heard.
I've found countless music from movies.
This is what keeps the music alive.

reply

Thats a really good list of tunes
Fine drinking music for a Friday night🍻🍻🍻

reply

Thanks.

😎

reply

That’s my second favorite Stones song. (#1 is Gimme Shelter.)

reply

My second favorite is Sympathy For The Devil.

“Let It Be Me” by the Everly Brothers

“I bless the day I found you
I want to stay around you
And so I beg you, let it be me
Don't take this heaven from one
If you must cling to someone
Now and forever, let it be me
Each time we meet, love
I find complete love
Without your sweet love
what would life be?
So never leave me lonely
Tell me you love me only
And that you'll always let it be me

“In Dreams” by Roy Orbinson

“A candy colored clown they call the sandman,
Tiptoes to my room every night,
Just to sprinkle star dust and to whisper,
"Go to sleep everything is alright;"
I close my eyes and I drift away,
And to the magic night I softly say,
A silent prayer, like dreamers do,
Then I fall asleep to dream my dreams of you;
In dreams I walk with you,
In dreams I talk to you,
In dreams you're mine, all of the time,
We're together in dreams, in dreams;
But just before the dawn,
I awake and find you gone,
I can't help it,
I can't help it if I cry,
I remember when you said "goodbye".
It's too bad that all these things,
Can only happen in my dreams,
Only in dreams,
In beautiful dreams,
Only in dreams,
In beautiful dreams.”

Okay, now y’all know where I am in the age area. But, do I ever have stories to tell!

reply

Classics! I love Roy Orbison.

reply

Here’s an interesting read:

https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=126475636

A quote from the article:
“Orbison had a one-of-a-kind voice with a three-octave range and what one writer called a 'glass-shattering falsetto.' No less than Elvis Presley called Orbison "the greatest singer in the world."”

reply

I agree - his voice was amazing
