flu shot

I had the flu shot today and my arm is killing me - I hate needles but every year I go through this.

reply

How many times has the shot made you sick, or have you gotten the flu anyway?
I don't get flu shots but as I get older the propaganda starts to get to me and I
wonder if I am missing out on something?

reply

The flu shot has never made me sick just a sore arm. I have not had the flu in about 10 years so I don't want to mess with it

reply

That's a normal reaction and the only negative one I've ever dealt with. For me, the soreness was minimal, routine and easily worked through because I'm blue-collar and my work has always kept me physically active.

I used to get the shot every year and once read that in doing so, the immunity has a cumulative effect. I've also not had the flu in many years now even though I haven't had a shot in quite a few.

reply

I'm ready for the winter - bring it on

reply

Those were my thoughts as well
Seems my coworkers get sick a lot anyway(unless their lying to get out of work...)
I never get the shot and im still walking around

reply

One of the reasons you don't get the flu is that many people do get a flu shot and that keeps the flu from spreading. Then those of you who didn't get the shot have less of a chance to catch the flu.

reply

That was a reasonable and polite response
I dont know how long youll last here
But good luck!

reply

I've never had one.

Sometimes I get the flu sometimes not. Mostly not.
I know plenty of people who get the shot and still get the flu.
It seems that throughout the winter there are different strains that it doesn't always matter. IMO

reply

I never get a flu shot...ever.

reply

My sister the RN says I should get one, so I will do so this week.

"I Am the FBI."

reply

My wife is an RN and shes really good at her gig...she says they develope the vaccine on the 'anticipated' flu strain for this season...which kinda sounds like a crap shoot to me...
Im just gonna take my chances again...i haven't lost yet...
Thx tho:) you are NOT wrong to go!

reply

I had a very bad reaction to the swine flu shot I got back in the mid 70's. Since then, I have never had one. I haven't had the flu in many years.

reply

Yeah...i aint 'fraid of no flu

reply

I remember that 1976

reply

1976..?
Smthg bad happened back then with the shots?

reply

the vaccine was worse than the flu - we missed it here in Canada

reply

Wow...i was 3 so pls excuse me- had NO idea
Yeah...im not taking those shots..the 'authorities' always screw everything up man...
AND 'Swine Flu Fiasco' would be a great punk band name...c'mon!!
As always thx for links How!

reply

Canadians were afraid to travel to the USA - one big overreaction.

reply

TBH im afraid to travel in the US :/
Hope your arm feels better soon dude!
Thx

reply

Yeah. I was in the Army and I remember it being a big thing. It was mandatory to get one.
A number of years later in the early 80's there was a segment about it on 20/20 Quite a few people had gotten that shot in 76 and ended up with neurological problems.

reply

I remember we had a school trip planned for upstate New York and it was canceled because of the swine flu.

reply

What area of NY?
Im upstate all the time...its REALLY beutiful up there in spring and fall

reply

Buffalo/Rochester - I guess this is Western NY

reply

Yeah...thats really far from me
Considered a pretty and fun area
Hope you got there eventually...ive only been there once
NYS is almost too damn big tbh...should be like South NY and North NY LOL...such different vibes

reply

I have been to Cooperstown - Baseball Hall of Fame many years ago

reply

Jeez...pretty messed up
Id rather just get the flu and puke for a few days!

reply

LOL! I'd rather not! However, I'd sooner take my chances and skip the shot.

reply

Puke for a few days? That's not really the flu (influenza). That's just a stomach bug. Believe me, if you get influenza, you'll know it. It'll knock your socks off. I had it once, when I was in my twenties. I've never felt as bad as I did then. I was practically unconscious for four days. I did nothing but sleep. It was two weeks before I started to feel better.

True flu is a high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing, and feeling tired. Children may puke, but it's very uncommon in adults. Complications from influenza can include pneumonia and sinus infections, which is why the flu can be deadly for some people.

reply

I've never had a flu shot. I drink enough alcohol to kill all the germs.

reply

The sore arm seems to be a pretty normal reaction.

I got the flu shot once and got so sick from it. Never got it again.

I used to get the flu once every year or two but I haven't even had a cold, let alone the flu since I started taking a daily probiotic around 3 years ago.
Works wonders for me!
