Are you watching anything right now?
On your TV, some other screen, same screen?
I have the movie Inconceivable (2017) on in the background on TV, but clearly not paying much attention.
sorry i just don't like Nic Cage

For the past two weeks I've been bingewatching Shamess. I'm just started season 3. I'm totally emotionally invested in all the characters. I think that it has better writing than GoT.
share" I think that it has better writing than GoT."
I don't think that's legal is it ?
GoT is a popularity fest. Shameless is the real deal; it's art. There are so many moments of GoT that I don't remember because the writing is rushed or not that much happens. Shameless has a well written story and all characters are developed in every single episode. I remember everything that happens to the characters. They all have complex lives and are in nearly every episode. A lot of hard work goes into Shameless. GoT is pop culture nonsense especially season 6 of GoT.
shareSome crime show on ID. That's my to-go channel when I'm not watching anything in particular.
shareID is way too addictive. Almost every show on that channel is good.
shareI was temporarily addicted to Homicide Hunter on there.
shareGood timing. I just mentioned Joe Kendra.
What is it about these kinds of shows.
I probably could watch these shows 24/7 and not even think twice about it.
We often seem to be on the same wavelength, dewey.
On the Case with Paula Zahn is another one I've enjoyed on there. It seems to deal primarily with cold cases decades old, finally being resolved. Downright riveting !
That's another one.
You can't help but watch it. Once you start you can't stop.
Human nature and needing to know why. It's amazing to think about that these shows along with
other channels have enough material to keep going. They do sometimes have the same story on
different episodes but for the most part it's all new. Sad to think our society can contribute and keep
contributing these for our entertainment.
Even with all that I still can't shut it off.
Right now? The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
shareThe Robe with commentary.
shareHere I am again....
At the moment? Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares.
I know...... but it's a guilty pleasure.
The UK or the US ones? Oh, actually the UK ones are just called Kitchen Nightmares right? He was so much better back then. Toned down and everything.
shareI prefer the UK ones. I agree that they weren't, shall we say, sensational?
At the moment, I am watching a few of the American ones. So much Drama, right?
I prefer the UK ones as well. Ramsey can actually be kind of sweet. I remember there was a cook on one who was an alcoholic and he was very kind to him. I do like Gordon Ramey though. :)
shareI like him too, and yes, The UK episodes were actually better.
Another show is Master Chef. I prefer the ones from other countries. It's more about the food than the drama. You actually learn something from those.
Oh, god, have I been down the Youtube spiral of wasted time with that show. How are all those freezers so disgusting?! It's great.
shareI know right? I've probably seen every episode. lol.
Now he has Hotel Hell, have you seen this? I can't believe a celeb chef has been on TV so long, with so many shows. Crazy. But if we keep watching :)
Yup, people keep watching so they keep making them.
I've seen a few episode of Hotel Hell. It's just not the same though lol.
We do have our own version of Kitchen Nightmares, but half it's apeal is Ramsey's personality. Our guy isn't nearly as shouty and it's much more tamer in the drama department. Still though, it's retained the "ick" factor.
Yes, he's pretty calm in Hotel Hell. And as much as it might be considered Tv that should be a guilty pleasure, yes I still watch now and then.
What country did you say you were from? I know I saw it on the site, so forgive me for forgetting. It would be cool to have a show like that in your own country. I would love for Canada to have one too.
I'm from Bulgaria /I don't think I've mentioned it this week lol/
I don't believe in that guilty pleasure stuff. You like what you like :)
It might be a good thing not to have your own version. Ignorance is bliss sometimes lol. But it is cool to see how a programme translates to different markets.
Yes, its true you like what you like. Just sometimes when I watch something totally corny and don't want anyone to know, i call it a guilty pleasure. lol
and yes i'm sure it would be scary.. imagine if it ended up at a restaurant you ate at? ahhh...haha
and sorry I couldn't remember where you were from. Canadian here. :)
I wished it could be possible to post pictures...i could've show you what i'm watching now...nothing "dirty"...i promise.Lol
shareyes it would be cool, but would make the site run slower. You could always link a photo.
shareRight now I'm watching Leah Remini's Scientology show. Morbidly fascinating.
shareI agree I get very interested in the Scientology stuff. I watched an episode of that show and kept meaning to go back but never did.
shareI'm very fascinated by it as well. Beyond the obvious mind control, I just can't comprehend how something like this can be a mainstream religion, when it is known who, how and why started it. The whole thing's just cockamamie, and very harmful.
shareThey aren't even allowed to look Scientology up on the internet. Crazy. Now in Hollywood too, they have so many that have grown up in the church and convert others. All about money.
shareWhen ever I watch or read something like this, I always think of that quote from Fargo: "And for what? For a little bit of money."
I can't imagine what it's like to grow up in that environment, and how hard it must be to get out. Especially with the way they go after people.
Me three, morbidly fascinated. I'd probably watch this show if I could get it. Just as well I can't because this stuff leaves me with a creepy feeling.
It's not mainstream, and I can't classify it as a religion, either :). Yep, the severe brainwashing and mind control is really something. Thank god the truth is finally coming out about it. Bizarre the kind of stranglehold it had on all media up until the past decade.
I wouldn't call it a religion either, but that's the PR they've been doing. I'm very glad they haven't been granted that status here. There is so much wrong with that "organisation", and the worst part is that the people in it seem like good people /beyond the elite/ and eager to help humanity and all that.
Glad you found the show BTW. I'm really impressed with Leah Remini for taking them on like that.
Your country has more smarts for not granting them that status than the States does. It still boggles my mind that after breaking into government offices and stealing documents, not only were they not prosecuted for it, but afterwards granted non-profit status by the Internal Revenue Service, based on their being a religion?!
Somehow they developed a LOT of power, for the government and even the press to be so afraid of them for so many years. It's bizarre.
It does seem like there were, and probably still are, some genuinely good people in it, but the higher-ups are so corrupt, it's astonishing. I'm still wary of that Mike Rinder (sp?) guy, and another one who was also a higher-up who left. They did terrible things to others, and I've yet to hear them be genuinely remorseful about it.
Years ago I became friends with someone who was in Scientology. He was a nice guy. He invited me to go to an introductory film, and I went with him. It was Hubbard speaking about it. I was immediately put off by him. The only thing I remember distinctly was he was asked about people who were mentally ill, and he said "We don't care about them." WTF??
The whole thing was a bizarre and unpleasant experience, with some humour thrown in! My friend understood why I wasn't into it, and never pushed.
I'm impressed with Leah too. It takes a lot of courage to do what she's doing.
Well, we did come /not really/ close to becoming a part of the state of Bulgravia. (reference: https://balkanist.net/scientologys-balkan-holy-land/ )
I don't think they can pull something like this off in a country with a very deeply rooted single Church. We think Catholics are weird, for goodness' sakes!
Anyway, I don't understand how your government can give them that status either. Because, correct me if I'm wrong, it gives them all sorts of protections, not only the not paying taxes kind. My understanding is that there was some blackmail involved.
Wait, you were in a meeting with Hubbard Himself? Or he was just in the intro film? I've only seen clips of him, but he does give out this unsettling vibe.
The whole thing is extremely bizarre, even with no direct experience with it. I can only imagine what that meeting was like.
Yikes, bizarre and delusional is right! Never heard that one before.
Yes, it does give them all kinds of protections and rights they should *never* have had. Blackmail of some kind is the only thing that makes any sense, but even that doesn't make a lot of sense. To go up against the IRS and the FBI and win? On top of that to be able to intimidate the media into silence for so long?
Oh god no, I didn't meet Himself, LOL! He'd probably been dead for decades then anyway. The entire intro film was him talking. The more he talked, the more my interest flagged in hearing any more at all.
It was in a small screening room, with perhaps 40 seats and an aisle down the centre. Maybe 20 people total in there. Halfway through, I noticed a man sit across the aisle from me. I was bored and have excellent peripheral vision, so saw him turn his entire body towards me in his seat, head resting on propped up elbow, watching me intently. I got annoyed after a minute of this, so suddenly turned towards him, thumbs in both ears, wiggling my fingers and sticking out my tongue. Know what he did? Shifted only his EYES to the screen and pretended to not see me. LOL! Too bizarre. I knew he was One of Them.
They are very letigious. With all that money, they can make a court case go on for years and years. I did read somewhere that they'd filed so many complaints or cases /something of the sort/ that it was beginning to bogg down one of those agencies' system. Maybe they though it's not worth the hassle?
so suddenly turned towards him, thumbs in both ears, wiggling my fingers and sticking out my tongue
I was watching a few more shows on them, and wow, VERY litigious. So litigious there should be a whole new word to describe it.
Turns out I was wrong. 8 of them were successfully prosecuted and put in jail for that caper. Still, afterwards they were still granted non-profit status, and never should have been.
At the time, I was so naive, I thought the guy would laugh or at least crack a smile.
After the screening, I was escorted into an office with a "counselor" and asked questions. I remember one was about organised religion, which I said I didn't like. That was turned around on me that I had "a problem" with them. I counted with surely they wouldn't *want* anyone to join who wasn't down with organised religions, as that's what they were. He had no response ;)
I bought a book, on communication. Mostly to end it and get out of there. Worst mistake was I'd already given them my name and address. For the next two years, at least 3x a week, they sent me their junk mail. (continued)
I tried everything to get off their damned mailing list. Started writing "return to sender, remove from mailing list" on the envelopes. Didn't work. Finally tried calling, and was taken aback when they revealed they had a record on me, and knew what book I'd purchased! TWO years later!
Requested they remove me from their mailing list, said for months I'd be writing return to sender, remove from mailing list. They said they would, but of course didn't.
Finally, at my wits end, I saved up a bunch of the junk mail so it was a heavy envelope. Used their postage-paid envelopes they'd enclosed, stuffed them full, and sent them back. That cost them money. It only took doing that a few times before they stopped!
Oh, wow, Cat. That's just crazy!
It really is like they're recruiting you for a pyramid scheme. I like how you shut that guy up :D
I've heard that about it being super difficult to get off those mailing lists. But good on you costing _them_ money. Do they really expect to "beat" people into submission via junk mail? I wonder if that ever works.
It's scary stuff when you think about it. Two years and they keep a record on you for buying a book! Did they make you do the e-meter thing?
It is a pyramid scheme! Hadn't thought of it quite that way before, but you're spot-on. Much more malignant than your garden variety pyramid scheme, but the basis is the same.
I was pleased I managed to silence that guy, for a few minutes anyway. Cripes, what tactics they use.
"Do they really expect to "beat" people into submission via junk mail? I wonder if that ever works."
Really! Who, after being harassed for years via junk mail, is going to suddenly think "Hey, you know, I'm going to join after all! What a great organisation!"
I was really creeped out by the fact that they had a folder on me, all that time later. Yikes. Do you know that guy Tony Ortega, the journalist who's been writing about all this for years? I like him a lot. Very down to earth, good guy. I watched an interview with him and he said Scientology was all about intel-gathering. Even my little story shows that, and of course it's *nothing* compared to what they've collected on actual members.
No, no e-metering. Just the intro film and the "counseling."
I've been on their mailing list as well, ever since the late 80's when I read Dianetics, which I actually found to be quite fascinating at times. It's never even occurred to me to go through the hassle of trying to be removed. The mailings I receive are so sporadic, infrequent and when I do get one , I don't even bother to look at it anymore. It just automatically gets pitched like all other unimportant junk mail.
I've watched several of those episodes with Leah Remini and found them to be very interesting and insightful.
They've been at you since the 80s?! Well over 20 years? My god, they never give up! How did they get your name and address, out of curiosity?
I was getting inundated with their junk. At least they've let up with you, sending them infrequently.
I agree, although I've only seen 3-4 episodes, I found Leah's show to be both interesting and insightful. Never saw King of Queens, so this is all I know of her, but I think she's courageous.
I seem to remember mailing them some sort of coupon or other offer at the end of the book for additional literature. What I get occasionally is a newsletter type of publication ironically titled 'Integrity.'
I agree. She took a very gutsy stand considering their power and what they're capable of. Have you heard of the theory that they had Phillip Seymour Hoffman assassinated because his portrayal in the film The Master too closely resembled Hubbard?
I never read Dianetics, but it makes sense they'd have some sort of coupon like that. "Integrity," ha! That is irony at its finest.
No, I've never heard that theory. I've vaguely heard of The Master and its being inspired by Hubbard, but have never seen it. I was shocked when PSH died. Was there a coroner's report saying what it was he died from that would help prove or disprove this theory?
I've seen the movie and I saw the similarity instantly, even the physical appearance , somewhat.
I think his death was written off as a heroin overdose. I wish I could remember where I encountered that theory; probably some documentary. I suppose it could probably be Googled.
I Googled and couldn't find anything that looked credible. Not that I'd put it past them, it's that the Illuminati being responsible got as much coverage.
It's possible. From what I read it sure *sounded* like it was based on Hubbard. Too much so to be coincidental, and yet PSH downplayed this and didn't want to talk about it, which is strange in and of itself.
This is funny. Guess what the only item in my mailbox was today.

Those cults alwats prey on the vulnerable. It's sickening. And they make it so that if you ever were to leave, you'll have no money and no one to turn to.
He is just a sci-fi writer, one with lots of issues apparently. It bogles the mind.
It is sickening, and much worse for those who were raised in it, so when they finally left, they knew they'd not only be shunned by all their friends, not have any money or probably education to get a good job, but also know they'd be shunned by their families! They'd have little idea of how to even live in the real world, and would be very beaten down by all the abuse and brainwashing.
The courage it'd take to do this is difficult to imagine.
You have to be a very strong person to leave. I can't imagine what it is like to be shunned by your family! I also can't imagine how, parents especially, can abandon their children like that. The brainwashing has to have such hold on these people, to make them do that, forget all the money and the other stuff.
shareNo joke!
Apparently parents aren't allowed to bond with their children in Scientology. I saw account after account of kids, now grown, saying their parents only saw them for about an hour, once a week, if that! Babies and toddlers left in nurseries in horrible conditions. Parents sent off to various places for months, even years, at a time, without their kids. These are the kids of those who were in the Sea Org, their paramilitary "priesthood." Maybe of others who were very involved, too. I don't remember.
Too right, the brainwashing has to have been incredibly severe for people to abandon their natural instincts like that.
Now I'm watching it! Found it on YouTube.
shareI get so tired of Leah Remini. She's has totally overblown the situation with Scientology all because they didn't like her and now she's using her bad experience to make money. It's all about the money and publicity at this point.
share"all because they didn't like her"
Not even close to what she's about. Have you seen any of the documentaries? Have you ever read up on Scientology -- its origins, its inventor, and how it basically makes slaves of people? Try getting a clue.
I don't think you can overblow the situation with Scientology. The information she's bringing out has been out there for a while. It's nothing new. But she is putting a human face /with all the victims of that cult being included in the show/ to the abuses of the "organisation".
Have you seen the show?
No I haven't but maybe I will (I doubt it) now that you've told me more. It's just that I think Leah is looking for publicity since her career isn't going to well.
shareI think she's a crazy person if she's looking for just publicity from Scientology. They will literally stalk and harass deflectors and sue the pants off of anyone trying to go against them. Sure, it brings her publicity, but I think it's much more than that.
Catbookss found the show on Youtube, give it a shot if the subject interests you. At least then you can make a more informed decision on what motivates Leah :)
Well don't crazy people join Scientology in the first place? If I do decide to watch the show I won't be watching it on YouTube. You tube gets on my nerves.
shareWell don't crazy people join Scientology in the first place?
"I think she's a crazy person if she's looking for just publicity from Scientology. They will literally stalk and harass deflectors and sue the pants off of anyone trying to go against them. Sure, it brings her publicity, but I think it's much more than that."
Exactly! She'd have to be out of her mind to voluntarily go up against them, knowing full well what they're capable of and *will* do to anyone who speaks out against them. The powers that be there are vicious.
The mummy (2017)...far more interesting then the Brandon Fraser versions
shareThis is with Tom Cruise? I can safely bet I'll probably never watch that movie. haha. But then again, you never know. :)
shareNarcos S3 is awesome
AND so is Nic Cage...wth?!?
;)
