Yes... it's interesting that you mentioned Jay Leno. If I remember correctly, he was really struggling in the ratings at the time (David Letterman had recently left NBC for CBS), but that all changed with the OJ Simpson trial. I loved Letterman's NBC show, but never felt like his CBS show was the same (and neither he nor his show aged well, IMO). But, yes, that entire chain of events may have saved Leno's career.
Also, not to say this flippantly or lightly, but it's really interesting how so much comedy came out of that entire series of events.
Interesting that you were actually in the LA area when it went down. Thanks for responding!
Yes, same here...we were watching something that really was one of the most memorable moments of our lives. The chase and then the trial... it's hard to believe it's been 30+ years now.
I was actually off work the day that the verdict was announced and the reaction you described regarding your co-workers is very similar to how my co-workers reacted as well.
I worked back then with a couple of elderly black ladies who were so sweet and kind...I just loved working with them. They followed the trial so closely (One of them had a radio that she would play at a low volume...she loved the old soap opera, "The Young And The Restless" and would listen to the audio at work!). They both believed OJ was innocent. They're both long gone now...I hadn't thought about them in a long time until now.
I never knew that. David Hasselhoff is one of those celebrities that seems really likable, I think. "Knight Rider" was such a cool show...I still think of him in terms of that more than I do "Baywatch."
Yes, I know a lot of doctors have said that the absolute best exercise a person can get is a brisk one-hour walk. Unfortunately, it's just too cold and rainy again to do a walk tonight. At least Spring will be here before we know it!
And, yes, I would love to hear your piano playing. Just out of curiosity, I think you also mentioned very early when you were posting here that you were wanting to learn bass guitar. Any more on that? I know you've had a lot going on in your life these past few months, so maybe that got pushed to the back burner, which is completely understandable.
Do you find it relaxing when you play the piano? By the way, I'd love to hear some of your piano playing one day...you should post something here when you feel like it!
I don't get to play nearly as much golf as I'd like (family responsibilities), but I get to go to the driving range a lot from around April to November (There's a nice range nearby where I work). I try to go at least once per week when I can. It's a nice little workout for about an hour or so... although sometimes, when I'm not hitting it well, it can cause me extra stress also! 😃
I play guitar year-round... but definitely play more in the Winter months than I do in the Summer.
I also try to walk for an hour at least 3 times per week. I walked on a treadmill tonight, but I don't really like walking on a treadmill. We've had a pretty chilly Winter this year, so I haven't walked as much as I normally do.
Yes, I never thought about what it would be like to eat one (I'm not a huge fan of lobster meat and never order lobster). They're so rare to find from what little I've read about them...I don't think I could eat one either.
I took my boys out to eat yesterday and made an offhand joke about opening a restaurant called "Blue Lobster" (a parody of the Red Lobster chain). Turns out that there actually are blue lobsters, but they're very rare...I had no idea there was such a thing!

Yes, I think you're right. I think there's a scene in "La Bamba" regarding that, if I remember correctly (I'm past due a re-watch of that movie myself). But anyway... with your family connection to Ritchie Valens, try to watch that movie when you can! 😃
He ended up withdrawing from the tournament today. Understandable, given his mother's recent death.
It's going to be interesting to see if he plays a tournament before The Masters (Like The Players' Championship, for example). I just don't think his body can make it through 4 rounds anymore. Hard to believe that it will be 6 years since he last won The Masters.
Supposedly, he got a lot of his competitive spirit from her. RIP
By the way, Tiger's teeing it up this coming week at Torrey Pines (I'm going to miss seeing Riviera this week, unfortunately). I seriously doubt that he wins and he may not even make the cut...but it will be interesting to see how he does.
Just because I'm in a mood... here's a little clip of Tiger and Jack Nicklaus after Tiger won the 2012 Memorial Tournament. I wasn't there at this one (I was there for the final round when he won his first Memorial in 1999...one of my favorite "sports highlights"). I sure do miss the CBS Golf Theme they used back then...Yanni outdid himself on this one! I want to hit a golf ball so badly after seeing this (I haven't hit one since early November)!

Awesome! Yes, you definitely need to watch "La Bamba." I think it's a very good movie...as someone who's never been to Southern California, that movie really seemed to capture what living there must have been like during the late 1950s.
As for the song...I love it. 9/10 for me. A lot of people here don't seem to like 1950s music like I do. "The Day The Music Died," as Don McLean put it so well in his classic song "American Pie" (which he seemed to have written because he loved that era of music as well... great songwriter). RIP, Ritchie Valens.
I agree...I actually like "Sanctify Yourself" a lot also. I can remember watching "Friday Night Videos" on NBC in the Winter of 1987 after one of my high-school basketball games and watching the video to that song. Jim Kerr just has such a great, distinctive singing voice.
I'm one of the people who thinks that games are... maybe not "rigged," per se, but "controlled" (think "Vegas, point spreads," etc.). And I feel like that the NFL doesn't even try to hide it anymore. I think The "Patriots' dynasty" was largely manufactured and it goes back even farther than that (I remember watching the Pittsburgh-Seattle Super Bowl some years back and thinking something wasn't right about that game and the way it was officiated).
To address some of your points:
1) While the Kansas City market may not be overly large, it has a pretty good-sized "regional market." Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, etc. It's a good-sized market when the region is factored in.
2) Along those same lines regarding the owners...I kind of think Jerry Jones is despised by the NFL big-shots. I'm not sure about The Giants...but they've had a pretty good run until recently (4 Super Bowl wins). The Jets are a lot like the Bengals and Browns (I'm a Bengals' fan)...they just can't seem to put it all together for whatever reasons. I do think certain franchises have definitely been "favored" through the years. The Steelers (owned by The Rooney's, who have always been "NFL Darlings") are a prime example. Back when Don Shula was involved with The Dolphins, they were widely rumored to receive preferential treatment. And The Hunts, who I think still own The Chiefs, have been highly regarded also.
3) As I said before, I don't really watch the NFL anymore, but I still get "reels/videos" in my Facebook feed of certain NFL plays and it definitely seems to me that The Chiefs somehow magically get the benefit of every controversial call. You'd think that one would go against them at some point, but it hasn't happened (yet), as far as I know.
Obviously, I can't prove this. But I think the NBA, MLB, and both college football and basketball are similar to the NFL as well. Games are "controlled" through the officials, referees, umpires, etc.
Just my $.02.
You are too kind! Thank you so much for the kind words! ❤️
Unfortunately, I would be a "No" also...I hate the sound of my voice (and I have one of the worst singing voices in the world as well).
However... with you being a fan of The Allman Bros. (At least the song "Whipping Post"... that is so cool!), here's a video of me playing guitar that I posted here awhile back. It's an Allman Bros. instrumental called "Little Martha." Leo Kottke (who's such a great guitar player in his own right) called it, "The perfect guitar song" and I think he was right about that. My version is kind of a "hybrid" between Kottke's version (I e., the harmonics after the intro and opening part) and the Allman Bros. version. Even though I can't sing a lick, I try to make my guitar sing, so I hope you like it! 😃

"I Can't Tell You Why" is probably my favorite Eagles' song.
Yes, Matthew Wilder is the artist.
Great song that I think was a hit during my Senior year of high school..."Alive And Kicking" by Simple Minds. While "Don't You (Forget About Me)" is still my favorite song from them, I really liked their follow-up a lot also.
