My son sent this to me...I actually feel badly for Kane, but I did think this was funny: https://twitter.com/FootyHumour/status/1601679563838611456?t=lqwZsdMcJASpbbCQfuMEKQ&s=19 Yes...even the announcers were stunned that he didn't get a yellow card for that. Thank you for posting that and I thought that was all very interesting. Yes, I should read Felder's book (I'm not much of a reader anymore, but that would make a nice read this Winter). Don Henley says he's not difficult, just opinionated. 😃 I love him as a musician and admire his musical talent so much...but yes, I think he's difficult! 😃 (Too many stories out there about him) Felder really brought a rocking edge to The Eagles that just wasn't there before he joined. I really love his solo on "One Of These Nights"...he is an excellent guitarist. I definitely don't agree with Frey saying he was a "session musician." He was an integral part of the band from "On The Border" thru "Hell Freezes Over." I'm glad he got paid finally, but it never should have come to that, unfortunately. Good question...adding to your original point, I thought it was interesting that Messi went first for Argentina in their shootout yesterday (and scored). I don't think this has been posted yet...takes me right back to the mid-80s when I was in high school. Bryan Adams: "Christmas Time": https://youtu.be/amk7AiEI43I Even though they first became popular in the late 80s, I'll say REM. They came out with some great stuff in the 90s. I liked Counting Crows' music a lot as well. How beautiful most of the women looked and how old a lot of the men looked (more "mature," for lack of a better word). Same with me..usually certain medical bills that I'll write a check for. Awesome! I love visiting Florida, although I wouldn't want to live there (just too hot in the Summer for me). Good luck and I'm sure you'll have a great, memorable time! I'm in the U.S. I think our public schools are not allowed to teach from The Bible, because that would be seen as "endorsing" a religion. You can teach about religion and mention Christianity/The Bible...but I don't think teachers would be allowed to read from it today. Here in the U.S., we do have private schools that are allowed to teach religious doctrine (mostly Christianity, although I'm sure there are other religions that have private schools also). The problem with that is, if you're an "average American" like me with multiple kids, it is very expensive to send your children to private schools. Most people here just can't afford it. ShogunofYonkers, I've really enjoyed reading your posts on this topic. You are obviously well-read and have studied Civil War history for sure! I had an excellent 8th-grade History teacher who had a real passion for the Civil War. I do agree with you that it definitely was a sad, awful time in our country's history. And yet, I find it all to be so fascinating. I loved Ken Burns' documentary "The Civil War" and listening to Shelby Foote's stories about the Confederacy. It's so interesting, IMO. Looking back, I think my teacher tried to make two points to us. One, it was bloody and not an "easy war" by any means (It's amazing to think that there were people sitting on picnic blankets watching the First Battle Of Bull Run). Second, even though I do agree with you that the South was really up against it in the long run...they did have a shot at "winning" the War. A couple of things go differently...and who knows? I still need to make a trip to Gettysburg at some point. I've been all around that part of the country, but never have been directly in Gettysburg. I hope to make it there one of these days. Yes, I love Glenn Frey's music and appreciate everything he brought to the table with The Eagles, but he sounded like he was a control freak. It would have been something to see Bernie Leadon pour a beer over his head when he quit the group! 😃 I was such a fan of the Eagles' music when I was younger. And I still am...but all the backstage bickering and fighting has lessened my enthusiasm for them somewhat over the years. For me, I really loved "Hell Freezes Over"...but I haven't really been crazy for anything they've done since then. "I think "Long Road Out Of Eden" was decent, but not great (I think everything they did thru "HFO" was great). It's a shame, because there is/was so much musical talent in that band. Yes...I think Felder was really done dirty by them. I love Bernie Leadon to pieces, but Don Felder really took the Eagles' music up another level when he joined the group. He's a great guitarist and I agree that he comes across as a decent person. Little bit of trivia: I believe Don Felder gave Tom Petty guitar lessons before he joined the Eagles. Two of my favorite musicians (I really miss Tom Petty). For those responses regarding the "agricultural nation" vs "industrial nation" argument...that's a valid argument and some solid points were made. I'm not a history teacher or anything like that, but I was taught that Gettysburg was really the turning point in the War and that the South "could've/would've/should've" won it. Not having Stonewall Jackson for that battle really hurt The Confederacy. If The South win at Gettysburg, then they probably win the War. However, they didn't...and it was a crushing loss for the Confederacy. I think Lee himself realized that the South would never win the War after it. Yes, The North had the industry...but The South had the generals, though (for the most part (Meade wasn't awful and I think Sherman & Grant were great). Had the Confederacy had Stonewall Jackson for Gettysburg...who knows what would've happened? My son is a big Messi fan...but, yes, that is a good point on the handball from Messi. I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish there. rex wrote: "and as we just watched, can also make them hero's" Again, so true. My son and I were discussing who had the tougher loss today, Brazil or The Netherlands. That's a tough call...I tend to think Brazil did, because U think they beat themselves as much as Croatia beat them, but both losses were agonizing. As a casual fan, though, I was thoroughly entertained by both matches today. I'm drained...and I don't even have a rooting interest (my son is a big Messi fan, though). Lucia2016, you make good points again. It's going to be interesting to see how this Argentina-Netherlands shootout goes. rex wrote: "holds individuals accountable in a team sport." Yes , it certainly does. A lot of pressure on those guys. Jes' Sayin', I was surprised by that as well. He made it look so easy in his penalty kick last game. He didn't even get a chance to kick today. Lucia2016, you definitely know soccer better than I do. It's interesting to me as a "casual fan/watcher" to see the different approaches on the penalty kicks. Watching Croatia's shooters was so impressive...they looked so comfortable in that situation. I'm sure it's something the players practice...but it does seem like it's 50/50 anymore.
