Zorro started it all.
I mean going back to the year 2001 (when the 21st century started), not going back 100 years.
They should do a modern remake of "Go for Broke," the story of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a regiment made up of Japanese-Americans who fought in Europe and were the most highly decorated unit in the history of the US Army.
It was well done. Hard to go wrong with Christian Bale as the lead.
I don't recall the show being racist, at all. Hardly anyone was bothered by their car being called the General Lee or sporting a Confederate battle flag. But 40 years further removed from the Civil War, it's now considered akin to a swastika.
Why not a movie about Red Cloud or Crazy Horse or someone interesting, who doesn't need Leonardo DiCaprio to save them?
1. Day of Days - (10) I mean, it was D-Day, and Winters took out 3 German cannons (guarded by 40 men) with one squad, and only lost 1 man. They still teach that assault. He didn't win the Medal of Honor mainly because the Germans never had a chance.
2. Currahee (9) The introduction to the company and how they were trained, with Capt Sobel shown as a great training officer, but unfit for the field.
3. Crossroads (9) Winters takes out two companies (300 to 400 men) of elite SS soldiers with one platoon (40 men). He realizes they have no chance if the Germans discover them first, so he takes the initiative -- shades of Robert E. Lee, defeating a much superior force.
4. Why we Fight (9) -- Truly heartbreaking, a reminder of what the Allied victory over the Nazis really meant.
5. Bastogne (8) -- Great testament to true courage, and the strain and service of those who cared for the wounded in battle.
6. Replacements (8) -- A view to a side of battle, and of war, rarely seen.
7. The Breaking Point (8) -- A view of the psychological wounds of battle.
8. The Last Patrol (8) -- Good mini-story and a surprising decision by Winters that the men appreciated.
9. Carentan (8) -- Great combat scenes but a little too gory for my taste.
10. Points (8) -- The denouement.
Man of Steel was great, and featured the best super-powered fight scenes of any superhero movie.
BvS was way better than CA: Civil War, which was supposed to be basically the same thing. Batman was trying to kill Superman. The Marvel guys were treating their big showdown as more like a football game, where someone might accidentally get hurt.
She was an ace reporter. It wasn't that hard to figure out.
Perry White was on Clark's trail in Smallville, but fortunately it happened during an episode where Clark temporarily lost his powers.
Portugal and Spain divided up the New World before they even knew what was really there. The had an East-West dividing line for new discoveries, but most of the new lands were west of the line, so Spain got them. Brazil was farther East, so it went to Portugal. That's why they speak Portuguese there to this day.
He seemed like a highly effective fighter though.
So is this the new DCEU Batman? or will there be yet another version of Batman?
This movie was almost good. Reynolds was fine for what they asked of him. The story was good. The main villain was bad, and they got the Green Lantern character wrong. He was never a jokey guy filled with self-doubt. He was an uber-confident fighter pilot and very serious (in contrast to Green Arrow, whom he was often paired with.)
When's the reboot?
I'm betting she gets in some good wisecracks at Clark and Perry.
Unless they decide to release the Batgirl movie after all....
So we're getting a new Superman and already have a new Batman, but we're keeping the same Aquaman and Wonder Woman? Isn't it time for a reboot across the board?
Well, the first 2 were good.
The best trilogy was Captain America though.
She had to beef up to be able to carry Chris Pratt like that.
I would like to see a series about the Korean War American pilots. Many future astronauts (Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, among others) and even a baseball Hall of Famer (Ted Williams, who set the flight school gunnery record and was Glenn's wingman.)
It's certainly up there. And amazing how many of these then little-known actors went on to have good careers.
James McAvoy has a bit part in one episode.
