shareI don't recall the show being racist, at all. Hardly anyone was bothered by their car being called the General Lee or sporting a Confederate battle flag. But 40 years further removed from the Civil War, it's now considered akin to a swastika.
shareI think people should be more careful when getting upset about a show like this. True for many people the flag symbolizes slavery and racism, but I do not recall the show being racist. Granted, I haven't seen the show for about 30+ years, but I think that's something I would have remembered.
The problem is that when we place too much emotion on something like the flag in an otherwise acceptable show, it tends to take meaning away from shows and movies that actually are racist (sexist, whatever) in and of themselves.
