Yes, it’s still on youtube The ostrich plumes brooch, the flamingo brooch clip, Edward’s bagpipes It was odd, though, that they included the Imperial State Crown, as Edward was never crowned (coronation takes place a year after the previous monarch’s death i.e. King George V’s death). Still gross Re royals not getting adventurous with names What a relief. Miramax distributed The King’s Speech in the US. The Weinsteins spent a fortune on Oscar publicity, as always. That said, imo The King’s Speech is the better film and more deserving of accolades. Ben Hur did it first. Heh, he had to be threatened by Churchill into boarding that ship in Portugal. He stalled and stalled, and got the nazis to give them permission to send a maid back to Paris to retrieve their effing bed linen. Then there’s the whole refusing to return to England when France was falling. They went to Portugal instead, leaking national secrets to the nazis and requesting and receiving assistance from the nazis to send a maid back to Paris to retrieve bed linens. They kept making excuses to put off sailing back to England. Finally Churchill insisted they got on the boat or else. I’m sure Madonna does tho Playing dress up again. Indian garb, Egyptian garb. cultural appropriation. just embarrassing. She Glorified a horrible, cruel practice in the bull fighting music video. She tried to set the taste for her generation, but she had none. Her legacy is a huge embarrassment. Overly pretentious, boring, embarrassing, cringey, lacking depth, amateur storytelling. No, it’s because the film has zero substance. The story is lacking in every way. All the film has going for it is being pretty to look at. And even then, it falls short on some levels. The actor playing the love interest wasn’t nearly handsome enough, and Abby Cornish looked so freakish in many scenes. She needed to drop 10 pounds at least to meet the aesthetics of the film. Maybe a 6, possibly, but definitely not a 7. Exactly. They had burned their bridges and their only viable option, at that point, was each other. I am inclined to believe that he never wanted anyone else, or wanted to not be with her. I think he clung desperately to her, starting before he became king and continuing until his death. Their trips to New York were eye-rolling leach-fests. They sponged off their “friends” who footed the bill for everything. One couple paid the huge florist bills which included fresh flowers every day for each room in their New York suite. The Windsors would plan to come for two weeks, and their “friends” would line up, each agreeing to pay for the couple’s needs: the suite, flowers, rental of paintings and other artwork to decorate the suite, restaurant bills, luxury cars, gifts, etc. Then the Windsors would stay an extra two weeks and the “friends” would get stuck with the extra costs. Wallis had a couple of boy toys over the years, which apparently really stung Edward to his core. She called her mother Cookie, and referred to her as the fat Scottish cook. His biggest concern was money, apparently. Because of his income from the Duchy of Cornwall, and from having been the Prince of Wales, his father didn’t leave him a share in his estate. David was angry not to have inherited his portion and had a huge concern of being able to live up to his promise to Wallis of living in grand style. He was always looking for ways to save money from the royal purse. He hated Sandringham and resented the huge costs required to run the place. He laid off over 100 members of the staff—people who had been faithful retainers to the royal family for years, and were now losing their incomes were it not for the Duke and Duchess of York finding places for some of them at their own home. He set in motion plans to sell off the farms surrounding Sandringham. This was stopped by the abdication. He would have sold Sandringham off completely, given the chance. George VI, who had not had the benefit of earning money from a duchy, like Edward VIII, had to borrow money to purchase Sandringham, Fort Belvedere and Balmoral fromhis brother. These properties were owned by David outright. Balmoral and Sandringham were left to him In his father’s will, yet because he didn’t inherit any cash from his father, he felt cheated and unfairly dealt with. What a baby. https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2021/02/herd-immunity-might-be-impossible-even-vaccines/617973/ But wasn’t that the problem Harry’s previous gfs had? They didn’t want to have to follow royal protocol for the rest of their lives? Yeah, C list indeed. I’m American. I have never watched suits nor heard of Markle before the engagement. The impression I got of her came from all the celebrities (e.g. Oprah) saying how special she was, how she was going to revolutionize the monarchy, etc. it was so gag-inducing. The whole thing about the little bridesmaids going bare-legged to the wedding was positively eye-rolling. If royal protocol was that they should wear tights, and the Duchess of Cambridge (mother of one bridesmaid, and future queen consort) felt that they should follow protocol, why did Markle have to be the stereotypical ugly-American and bridezilla, insisting that they break with royal protocol and go bare-legged? Why did she ever marry him if she didn’t want to follow through with the duties and traditions? The examples of Diana Spencer and Sarah Ferguson should have been enough to make her run in the other direction if she wasn’t truly committed to toeing the royal line. Americans can dislike the whole idea of monarchy. There are plenty of Brits who believe it’s an outdated institution, too. But there are still many Brits (royalists) who still believe in monarchy and see the royal family is a symbol worth preserving. They feel they get more than their money’s worth. Charles has indicated in the past that he believes the monarchy should be streamlined, that some of the lesser royals should lose their HRH and be downgraded so there are fewer drains on the English purse. The Duke of York has insisted all along that his daughters get the full royal treatment, including all the bodyguards etc., even though their first cousin, Zara Philips (Princess Ann’s daughter) has lived her entire life perfectly well without all those trappings. When Charles is king, it will be interesting to see if he follows through on those statements. I think he will make some necessary changes to keep monarchy relevant, and to protect the institution. That could mean downgrading his second son as well as his brothers. Probably doing what most UK actors do: stage work. Film and tv are for paying the bills. Their real career is on the stage.
