Honestly.... I agree lol :D
To clarify, I didn't like the whole brother/sister thing, but I didn't like this film for the other reasons.
To me the script read out like the 60's series but like @Otter stated, which I agree with, Uma Thurman is the only one who played it up to that degree...I mean jeez with those lines what else can you do? Without looking at it that way, she becomes the biggest distraction besides batman's nips.
The smartest character was a boy. Literally everyone else in this movie is beyond stupid, even Laurie.

And I do get the teen aspect but they didn't tug in any direction enough to give me what they were going for. Like is this Laurie's revenge? Michael's Revenge? The Doctor's Uprising? A Generational Terror with Michael going after Laurie's grand daughter and her friends? In the end, I felt like we got no where. Laurie didn't die and Michael didn't either.
I'll admit I do have some heavy expectations but I really want a new experience with these films.

Loool excellent write-up and so very true. Like to me I expect to hear "Back-Door Open" or all the other modern security devices people have now...not even an ADT sign in the yard lol.
The filming style of far shots and music guided tension help carry that film as well. There are so many times in this film where things are happening with no music and I'm like...wow there's no feel of encroaching tension with bland silence.
I agree with you. If anything the topic was about camping which they were going to/or leaving.. so at least it was on topic.
That's not terror, that's just terrible.. Michael is the villain we come for not weirdos that are needed to be weirdos when the script demands. I'd leave rape out of Halloween, it's not creepy it's just cruel.
If only they scrapped the stupid doctor, that dumb house, the teen drama, another lame bus crash incident, and the fact that pure evil was captured in the first place, then I think we would've had better to work with.

Beautiful & Bad stabbed him once I believe... but I completely agree... maybe that's why I liked 4 more. They got more adventurous with Alice and made her a badass by the end.
Michael was far more "random released crazy" in this film though. Laurie had to go find him and then the script had to help Michael find her.

I would have made it even creepier, like have him say to her in the car that he wants to rape her and then let Mike kill (that would have put it over the top.) WHYYYY?!?!?!?
